See it. It just said 2 games played. I'm easily confused.

Give me a few seconds to actually do all the updates before complaining!

As @Dr alex has already mentioned here , the BATTLE OF THE 'VETTES (10 Corvettes) has ended with a 9-2 (420-147; MoV 273) in my favour. I was first and we have played his Salvage Run.

It was an insane game with things I have never seen before:

  • An Admo being able to shoot (and to kill with every single shot) in three different rounds (twice in round 2, then in round 4, and again in round 5)
  • A Garel's Honor (his) being perferctly positioned to ram several times while sitting on the station and therefore not getting any damage from it
  • A Super Ackbar Doom Pickle not firing a single shot from its side arcs during the entire game
  • Dice so annoyingly being in my favour that even I could not enjoy this game

Here is the logfile.

Featuring also a vicious ally helping me (yes, this is a click bait...).

Edited by Darth Veggie

Goodness me that ally helped you @Darth Veggie . She really helped make sure I made a string of irrideemably bad decisions and then left.

This game proves that there are some matches you just (theoretically) can't win - but you can ALWAYS lose a game, no matter the odds.

I would love to ask you, if you please buy her a beer in my name, but I fear that might be tantamount to throwing a lit match into an already unstable powder keg...

I might do it without telling her why. I suspect she would actually hurt me if I told her why

Dupy vs @CaribbeanNinja , pod 3

The battle ended 423 - 278 for Dupy.

MOV 145

This battle brought many a sleepless night leading up to it. CaribbeanNinja brought a huge 6 activation doom pickle, Ackbar fleet and 38 hull points in squads! Against my small 4 ship fleet and friends.

Ninja had a huge bid, and chose to go second. I had awful choices and settled on fire lanes, even though He brought 3 strategic. It seemed like a better idea than giving his Pickle advanced gunnery.

I lined my ships up to charge the fire lanes, while his fleet was set to drag the tokens along the bottom of the board milking them for all they could. He succeeded in bringing the tokens back, but, in the process, his squads got tied up in the middle of the board. His jamming flotilla was a huge thorn in my side keeping his guys alive, more than mine. Jan Ors quickly overheated her defense tokens protecting her escorts. By the end of turn two she was on the run, getting her ticket punched at the end of the turn by Bossk. The vcx's then took their lumps until the last one died to Bossk in the last squad phase.

On the ship front, Insideous charged to get in front of the Pickle as it scooted from right to left on the table. Insideous was able to block the front of the Pickle, as my Demo was coming in fast from the rear. Ozzel, in his raider was holding just outside Ninja's line of death. Turn 3 had the pickle activating first of his ships after insideous unloaded out his front on the mc80. Some awesome maneuvering of the pickle left both Demo and Insideous in opposite side arcs after Demo started in for a tripple tap. I had also committed Ozzel for his run.

Turn 4 left a horrible decision of which gladiator to abandon to the hail of red dice. Since Insideous was limited to only one arc, I chose Demo, not sure I could escape the side arc of death. Luck was with Demo as he unloaded his apt's into the pickle and snuck into the front arc of relative safety. After Insideous popped like a gnat swatted by a brick, ozzel jumped up to speed 4 and armed his racks for the kill.

My bombers were able to soften up the mc80 and remove the remaining shields before Admiral Ozzel, Hero of the Empire, unloaded his external racks to bring down the beast. That thing took a beating. Between his repair crews flotilla, blast doors, and all the repair tokens, it was like killing 2 mc80's. But, it went down.

I cleaned up the rest of his squads and his jammer flotilla to end the game.

I knew I had to sacrifice the fire lanes to start the game, but was able to grab a couple as my fleet closed on them. Ninja gained 10, I gained 8.

It was a fantastic battle! I thank CarribeanNinja for the game and being a gracious opponent.

Cheers!

Of course, I didn't get a log file. Sigh.

Big time congrats to Dupy for winning the POD! He played a nearly flawless game, and totally deserves the right to move on and crush it in Elims.

His list of Boss(k) squads tore us up! (Seriously, do not underestimate the power of his squad punch)

Dupy is always a pleasure to play against, and while I lost, I was 1. Happy to snag 3 points from him, and 2. really excited that this was a fantastic game.

Our only failing is that we forgot the log. We are dumbasses. Sorry.

@thecactusman17 defeats @Maturin 277-0 for a 9-2 victory. We played his Most Wanted.

While Maturin started off well prepared with a bunch of anti-slicer tomfoolery to ensure he got regular use out of his carriers, he couldn't possibly be prepared for the sheer overwhelming damage of an enraged Avenger captain obliterating his Assault Frigate in a single hail of cannon and missile fire. This enabled the Avenger to then launch its remaining side ordnance at the Admonition, forcing it to lose shields and discard valuable tokens as it tried to flee the oncoming barrage. Admonition then was force to make the ultimate decision that every captain dreads: Staying in range of Avenger for another terrible blow, or fleeing directly into the double-arced jaws of an oncoming Demolisher. Ultimately, the MC30 took a gamble and lost terribly. A Gozanti cruiser directly in front of Demolisher stopped Admiral Motti's advance out of the double arc, and Admonition's copious defenses couldn't withstand 3 broadsides from Demolisher's Assault Proton Torpedoes. While Sato dove forward with Salvation, he couldn't get a clean hit through Demo's shields. Demolisher and Avenger proceeded to blast through Salvation's side shields, then did severe damage to the hull. With time running out and the targeted GR-75 safely out of harm's reach, Sato ordered the Salvation to hyperspace before all hands were lost at the end of round 5, leaving the remaining GR-75 and squadrons incapable of causing enough effective damage to destroy Motti's flagship. With the combat over, Motti pulled his fleet back to a defensible position on the eastern fringe of the system.

Maturin had some mistakes, but played a cagey and effective game that only really succumbed when my dice finally started rolling blistering hot at just the right moment.

I'm looking forward to my upcoming games against @Admiral Theia and @Captain Weather in the next few days, hopefully before the weekend is out.

@thecactusman17 is too kind. He had me playing the game he wanted from the beginning...my plan was to focus one ship down at a time (as usual), and of course I immediately got distracted and lost focus. Ooooh, look, an annoying slicer gozanti! Let's send Salvation after it! Oh, Demo lurking in the back? Admo, off you go!

Meanwhile, the AF says "ummm, guys, I could use a little help against Avenger here..."

Just about my only sensible move was preserving my objective ship, Toryn's transport. Which is not to take anything away from thecactusman17's victory - he flew flawlessly, executed his plan well, and won a very deserved victory. Congrats!

The battle for the wooden spoon in Pod #2 has concluded with a 292-180 win for myself.

Tgall went first and chose my superior positions which would come back to haunt him maybe as I racked up 5-1 tokens. My Sloane flying circus beat up a few of his squads only to lose Avenger to Gladiator combined arms fire. Apparently comms were cut off after Avenger went down and the message wasn't relayed to my squads which continued to bomb the rear of Insidious, and hit, which is a miracle. Usually when Sloane goes down, my squads roll crits and acc.

Great game, great opponent. Good luck tomorrow at FFG @tgall

log file here

And with that game, my path to continued advancement in the Cup closes rather firmly. We played my Most Wanted (his 80, one of my Gozantis), and @CaribbeanNinja bagged Chimaera, while the Imperial Navy got a lone X-wing (though counterfire nearly got several more, including noted spy Jan Ors). Final score 147-13, 7-4 for CNinja.

Suffice it to say there are several drawing boards between here and the next thing I dare call a tournament list.

Hedgehog over CNinja 89-88!

We played his Most Wanted. I made a slower turn than I needed to, and the MC80 got out of the game. HH was able to save his MC-75 and it became a slog of squadrons. I got his objective GR-75 with Toryn and 3 squads. He got two GR-75 and three squads. A great game. I've had a lot of fun playing this list. It isn't my style, but I really don't understand the hate for it. I've had so much fun trying to fly the Pickle. I will say I'm now in love with Jamming Fields and Repair Crews. Never used them before, but they were really clutch.

With that, POD 3 is closed. Congrats to Dupy and HH for advancing!

For completing the game nobody expected to be completed, you both earn a Spirit of Competition Award, and automatic entry into next year's World Cup! Congratulations to you both for a well fought POD!

Updated to this point. Congratulations Dupy and Hedgehog of POD#3!

You can say that again...

Oh wait...

Now that I quoted it you have.

@thecactusman17 v Captain Weather ends in a 184-216 / 6-5 win to Captain Weather!

TLDR is the MC75 went down to 4 turns of the Kuat, Demo killed Bright Hope, and a Y-Wing bit the dust, in exchange I killed Motti on his Demo wagon, a Slicer Tools Gozanti, and scored the Station 4/6 turns (the other two were tied).

Really great game I thought, Cactus was a fun and gracious opponent, couple of mistakes on both sides but pretty even in the wash. I was pretty glad that Dodo died to be honest, I had repaired a card from its hull but forgotten to update the hull value and it really messed with Cactus decision making on the ISD in the following turn so it would not have sat well with me if the MC75 had managed to sneak away as a result.

Cactus recorded a log-file and is planning on posting it either tomorrow or more likely on Monday.

Apologies in advance for the part where we accidentally moved the ISD a good distance 3-4 from where it was and didn't notice for a fair whack of time (thanks @JJs Juggernaut for spotting it from the peanut galleries).

Scoreboard updated. Of course you guys couldn't give me a big enough win one way or the other that solidified the standings so I could write the elimination round articles...

I aim to displease.

I have the log but likely won't get it up until late tonight at the earliest. If I can't do it today, it won't go up until sometime Tuesday.
