CA or plastic glue on these?

By Gorsk, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

There was a little collateral damage as my models were stripped of their pain using isopropyl alcohol over the weekend. My Nebulon B tail fins and a horizontal antenna on a VSD came off. I believe that either a) when placed in the same tub, they started fighting or b) the alcohol dissolved the glue.

Anyway, do folks use cyanoacrylate (super glue) or plastic glue with these models?

Superglue. 100%.

If you don't know the type of Plastic involved, you cannot guarantee Plastic Glue/Cement will work.

Full stop.

With smaller parts though, pinning certainly becomes an option.

So for something such as the bottom part of a CR90 which plugs into the stand to snap off which would you recommend over the other?

Any glue on its own would be insufficient.

The tensile strength required far outstrips all adhesives - indeed, It outstrips the plastic itself...

That peg, if broken off, should be either pinned back in place, or replaced entirely by a peg sized pin...

Thanks for input, I didn't think the glue would be up to it but had not considered pinning before.

Try 12 gage copper wire. If you do your own home repairs, or know someone who does electrical, just snag an extra piece of the ground wire from 12-2 Romex. Drill out where the peg used to be, insert wire, glue in place, clip off extra, then file the front flat until it fits snugly into the stand.

It will be better than the original peg, as the copper wire will bend rather than crack like the plastic.

Also look into Zip kicker, if you are using Super glue. It instantly cures Super glue on contact.
