Welcome to my Minefield!!

By Sonikgav, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Looking to tweak a list. I think there's potential but it needs a little help based on the testing ive done. Now, it could be down to how i fly it, or it could be the options but that's what this forum is for right? :D

Crimson Squadron Pilot (25)
Minefield Mapper (0)
Ordnance Silos (2)
Cluster Mines (4)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
Deflective Plating (1)

Blue Squadron Pathfinder (23)
Minefield Mapper (0)
Extra Munitions (2)
Sabine Wren (2)
Hera Syndulla (1)
Cluster Mines (4)
Pivot Wing (0)

Total: 100

10 Cluster Mines in all, 3 deployed via Mapper. Bombers that can red move and still drop as well as the U Wing to carry Sabine

Works well against Tanky builds that rely on modifying shooting ie Fenn and/or Ghosts or ships that rely on defensive dice that have gotten too close. Also excellent against TLT builds that struggle to chew through that much HP. If any of these ships manage a block, they are virtually guaranteed a direct Cluster drop in the following turn. Oddly enough its a decent matchup to take on Nymranda.

Awful against super fast ships as they cannot chase down anything and ships like Dash that can hammer them from R3 with high damage. Also not great against ships with strong Regen.

In all my Games the U-Wing feels redundant. It behaves too much like the Bombers but doesnt have that turret advantage. I still want a Sabine caddy and the addition of the extra Minefield Mapper/Cluster really does help. I was almost thinking a B-Wing (with a tractor beam to pull ships onto bombs) as its virtually the same though its more fragile. I need something that can genuinely support the bombers, preferably while carrying Sabine. Ive considered Fenn, Wulf, an Arc, Rex or Ahsoka, HWK's, Ezra (in either shuttle), a Wild Space Fringer or a Warden with either a TLT or Ion Cannon. Basically anything in the lower end of the point scale that can carry crew. The Bombers are set (maybe drop Deflective plating if the support ship needs the points) but it really is that third piece of the puzzle that is bothering me.

Any thoughts?

How about the TIE for the carrier?

So I know Ashoka and the captured TIE doesn't do much against the PS9 and up crowd, but at least those boats can't hit her. She is just there to hand out actions. Then there is the (albeit gimmicky) one time move of cybernetics -> get a focus token with cool hand -> do a K turn -> drop the proximity mines -> still give an action

Plus there was still enough points to but the titles on the bombers. The TIE doesn't trigger it but if you fly them together they work off of each other.

What about this?

Crimson Squadron Pilot — B/SF-17 Bomber 25
Minefield Mapper 0
Conner Net 4
Ordnance Silos 2
Ship Total: 31
Crimson Squadron Pilot — B/SF-17 Bomber 25
Minefield Mapper 0
Conner Net 4
Ordnance Silos 2
Ship Total: 31
Keyan Farlander — B-Wing 29
Push the Limit 3
Minefield Mapper 0
Sabine Wren 2
Proximity Mines 3
B-Wing/E2 1

Ship Total: 38

Conner nets give more guaranteed damage and ion control. And I always think Keyan is a solid pilot with PLT. I know it's less support for the bombers but it lets the b wing give out more damage.

How about :

Crimson Squadron Pilot — B/SF-17 Bomber 25
Minefield Mapper 0
Ordnance Silos 2
Cluster Mines 4
Pattern Analyzer 2
Deflective Plating 1
Crossfire Formation 2
Ship Total: 36

Crimson Squadron Pilot — B/SF-17 Bomber 25
Minefield Mapper 0
Ordnance Silos 2
Cluster Mines 4
Pattern Analyzer 2
Deflective Plating 1
Crossfire Formation 2
Ship Total: 36

Fenn Rau (Sheathipede) — Sheathipede-class Shuttle 20
Veteran Instincts 1
Sabine Wren 2
Flight-Assist Astromech 1
Conner Net 4
Ship Total: 28

Been doing some more testing and most agree the support ship is definitely the weakness of this list.

The U-Wing just doesn't add enough threat/damage despite it having good red dice, the number of times it gets to use them, and the lack of modification really hurts.

I know it's overdone but I really think a Wookie might be the way to go for the Sabine carrier. Just your basic Kashyyk defender with Sabine, 3P0, and Thermals for if anything gets on your tail. The trouble with trying to make your wingman the biggest gun (Keyan in particular) is he will inevitably die first, leaving your mines far less threatening. Just make the carrier a massive pain to kill and fight a war of attrition.

I might also try swapping the Clusters for Connor Nets. Clusters cover a larger area, true, but Connors are way more threatening to the ships you're worried about (Dash, Aces, etc.), and the ion can give you shots for your turrets without taking return fire.

Gah, love this. You could just do 3 of those bombers, though I understand the desire to fit Sabine. But, 2 extra sets of clusters might make up for the difference, especially with that much more HP.

That being said, I don't mind the idea of a cheap TIE Sabine carrier.
