Advices for Hwk-290

In a true Scum fashion, here is a nasty little HWK-290 trick:

Palob Godalhi (20)

Attanni Mind Link (1)
Cikatatro Vizago (0)
Cloaking Device (2)
Pulse Ray Shields (2)

Total - 25 points

The idea is after you cloak, use Cikataro to exchange the Cloaking Device (and now you won't lose the cloak token) for a Feedback Array. Hit the Feedback Array when in a good position take the Ion and Damage, and regenerate the damage with the Pulse Ray shields and clear the 2 Ion tokens. Palob's ability, the feedback array and the pulse ray shields are not action dependent . So you still have one free action left for the mindlink.

You will not be able to fire, that cloak token is stuck on the HWK-290, but you are at 4 agility, and able to regenerate. And deal a strategic damage now and then. Plus support your mindlink ship for 25 points. Not bad for 25 points.

Expandtions Required: HWK-290, Most Wanted, C-ROC, Punishing One and the Mist Hunter.

That looks like the most expensive ship build in the entire game! That single ship would be what, approaching $160?

....but Scummy fun if you can build ?

A good Vader or anything with 3CP0 is pretty expensive as well. (But that is a good topic in itself.)

Hello,

I played X-Wing casually when it was new but stopped shortly after B-Wing and Hwk-290 were released. I recently found the box where I store the ships and saw the Hwk and it occurred to me that I've never ever flown it. I looked at its ship cards and it looks interesting.

However, I'm not sure if I want to start playing X-Wing again or not but I would like to test the ship I've purchased. I have a friend who plays X-Wing a lot and has all the ships as well as multiple copies of each ship so squadron compositions are not an issue as I'll most likely play against him. I've been away from X-Wing a long time so I have no idea what the current ships can do (or even what ships there are) or what the upgrades are, so any recommendations on what I could do to make the Hwk-290 work? And estimates on what the ship can achieve these days before it's blown into a cloud of dust? :P

I have a friend that really enjoys flying his HWK. He likes to fly with Ion Cannon Turret and often puts Stealth Device on it. The ICT can mess with people when it hits. The Stealth Device he says is surprising for a lot of people, especially if they aren't playing super competitive. It's great if you have a bank of Focus tokens for defense.

Nien Numb is a good crew for the HWK for the green maneuvers, especially if you go with Jan Ors. I had a Y-wing fire at R1 and get boosted by Jan to one shot a Tie Interceptor with main guns. It was a shot to remember.

The Scum pilots are pretty good and get access to the Illicit cards.

If you are just coming back to the game, might I suggest looking up Heroes of the Aturi Cluster? It's a fan made co-operative campaign by a guy who is a professional game designer. It's professional quality and the guy considered selling it to FFG, but decided not to. It really captures the feel of the game and is pretty fun when it's you playing WITH your friends vs. the enemy. I cannot encourage it enough as I have several friends who have quit the game, but will play HotAC.

If you're flying the scum version, a great cheap (but frustrating) ship is the spice runner with TLT and greedo for 23pts. It's a twin laser turret that dishes out crits, and really annoys people.

I'm planning to fly her like this next weekend..
=
Norra Wexley + Trick Shot + R5-P9 + Finn + Alliance Overhaul (37)
Shara Bey + Adaptability + M9-G8 + Weapons Engineer + Alliance Overhaul (34)
Jan Ors + Trick Shot + Autoblaster Turret + Pulsed Ray Shield (29)

I find Greedo crew extremely funny, and I try and use him whenever I can.

One of my all time favourite lists that I have been flying on and off since wave 4 (slight tweaks as new cards come out) is:

HWK Roark (19) w TLT (6) chopper crew (0)

Bwing Keyan Farlander (29) w HLC (7) FCS (2) Oppurtunist (4)

Xwing Wes Janson (29) w Swarm Tactics (2) , flight astromech (1) Integrated mech (0)

The goal is to boost Wes PS to 12, strip tokens from ships, swarm ps 12 to farlander, trigger oppurtunist, attack with 5 dice and modify with target lock and stress generated by oppurtunist and then TLT for extra damage. Farlander is good for 3-4 damage a turn if you can keep him on the park.

It seems most people like to fly Jan, but my favorite rebel HWK pilot is Kyle.

The core build is

kyle + Juke + TLT + Jan Ors crew

and depending how many points are left, pulse ray shield or vector thrusters and tilte.

I ve taken down prenerf Dengar 1 to 1 in a tournament with it. Juke and TLT is a nasty combo

I like to fly it with Rey next to it

Rey : Finn + Kanan + Expertise + Title TFA + Engine upgrade

Jan Ors : Trick shot + Chewbacca + TLT + Hull Upgrade.

JanOrs with 8 heals (4+1 hull, 1 Shield, 1 damage cancel+1 heal) is pretty tanky. If opponent focus on Rey, he can do some damage with TLT.

Rey can easily unstress him with white manoeuvers if not using the title.

And 6 dices range 1 Rey shot is pretty nasty (with the Finn reroll and expertise)

Why not try a pure HWK squad?

  • Spice Runner x 5
    • Synced Turret
  • or
  • Spice Runner x 4
    • Synced Turret
    • K4 Security Droid
    • Pulse Ray Shield

But, yes, the scum & villainy HWKs are a nasty set - Palob and Torkil working together are very unpleasant to face.

Or a pure rebel ace HWK-260 squad, with na'er a Twin Laser Turret in sight:

  • Jan Ors
    • Swarm Tactics
    • Ezra Bridger
    • Synced Turret
    • Pulse Ray Shield
  • Kyle Katarn
    • Moldy Crow
    • Swarm Tactics
    • Recon Specialist
    • Synced Turret
    • Pulse Ray Shield
  • Roark Garnet
    • Maul
    • Synced Turret

I'm constantly flying hawks. I got multiple R1 attacks from Jan my last casual night. The best part is when she delivered the final blow on Dash with it.

They are a versatile platform, but are overcosted, which sucks. I think Jan would see a lot more play if she was closer to 20 points like she should be if you compare her frame/abilities to...Fenn Rau for example.

Thank you all for your tips and advices.

I played few games with the Hwk. It was pretty fun to fly though I ended up enjoying the new T-70 X-Wing a lot more than the Hwk.

I also saw Gunboats in the game and didn't like their Slam ability. I played TIE Fighter a lot when I was a kid and the Gunboat in those games was slow. The only way one could get it to fly at moderate speed was to cut off the shields and lasers.

I also lost horribly. Mostly because I couldn't estimate the distances. And at one time I thought I could barrel roll away through an asteroid...

Still, it was fun couple of games. I enjoyed even the bad things that happened. And I think I've now flown all the ships in my collection...except the YT-1300 maybe. I might be wrong.

Good for you! Keep playing!

all named hawk pilots have a use, but Poalob Golabi and Jan Ors might be the most played, and the scum hawk pilot who makes skill 0 can make an arc dodger dead quick. its a fun ship, just keep in mind its the worst chasse in the game, so every upgrade and pilot ability needs to synergize with your list. Dont take Jan Ors unless you have a heavy hitter too. have fun!

I had quite a success with Dace Bonearm-Ion Turret-Predator-Moldy Crow-RecSpec. If there is another major thread in your list, this guy can deal lots of damage to your opponents ships and plans.

I lerves my HWKs... it's a great little ship that isn't perfect, but doesn't get enough credit in my opinion. I recently tried all three names Scum HWKs together, Dace, Palbo, and Torkil; managed to murder Poe and Dash with one HP left on Dace when he put the last nail in Dash's space-coffin.

For Scum, I love Palob flying support for two or three other ships; turret of choice with title, Recon, and Opportunist... Vectored Thrusters if I can afford it.

For Rebels, I usually like Kyle, who can stay out of reach but still hand off focus (or converted evades with Jan) or achieve some great synergy with Jake and Garven.

Of course, I do wish the dial was better, and I do wish its primary was two dice... I'm hoping for more titles down the road that can give the ship some more variance and maybe open up its dial and role(s).

I have four HWKs; one stock, and three that have been modded/repainted.

Please post pics! I love the HWK, and even more, I love seeingother people's repaints and mods of the HWK.

I recently saw a model of Raven's Claw in the same scale. I really want that one to fly it with Kyle and Jan...

oh-man-oh-man-oh-man. Awesome! We need these over on the HWK showcase thread.

Apologies to @Elrath' for side-tracking your topic.

That's interesting. And triggers harpoons, doesn't it?

Yes, apparently TLT does trigger harpoons if you roll a crit result, even though it is cancelled later. However, greedo does not trigger harpoons, he just causes damage cards to go face up.
