New Mad Carthos Art

By Zcurator, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Saw this art on a banner over on BGG.

It's revised art for Mad Carthos. We have seen the revised art for Red Scorpion in Runebound, now we are seeing revised art for Mad Carthos in Realms of Terrinoth.

I wonder if either of these will be released in a new set.

Thanks Zaltyre. Upon that knowledge, my guess is that this is art they have from a pack they decided not to print. So rather then let it go to waste they re-purposed it into the books and marketing material. Which is a good chance, sadly, considering that Red Scorpion has a sculpt to go along with her new art that was never released for Descent.

They seem to be using a different, more realistic, art style for characters in Genesys, as seen by the new art for Vyrah the Falconer on page 138.

I like the more realistic art-style they used for Vyrath. A lot.

Agreed.

As a huge fan of World of Warcraft, I don't mind Descent 2nd Editions similar art style, but I also agree that it was a major departure from 1st editions more realistic painterly look. And Terrinoth should define its own art style for the RPG setting. The Vyrah and Skye featured above definitely resembles a higher quality rendition of 1st edition's art for them.

That's awesome, I've always hated 2ed had lower quality cartoonish artwork.

It all comes down to the target audience. 2nd edition uses a WoW and LoL art style because that is what was popular to younger gamers at the time.
Genesys is a bit more complex and targets an older audience, many of whom I am sure were a younger age and fans of 2nd edition when it released.
