PCs Becoming Force Sensitive?

By BobaFettishes, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi everybody!

I am running a campaign that is completely my story-line with filler encounters I have found free online. I told my PCs to select a species and career based off of the EotE core rulebook. My PCs expressed interest in doing a force user and I gave them a hard no. This was to keep the characters to my initial story and since this was our very first EotE campaign I wanted to keep it simple.

Fast forward through many encounters and my PCs are still in the beginning of their time together but I am now confident that we can make things more complicated. So I want to up the ante by allowing my PCs to become force sensitive through their persistent run-ins with the force. They have encountered several force users along the way and even the Muur Talisman. (The Talisman is the cause for the Rakghoul Plague and the adventure had a sort of Dead Space feel. VERY FUN!!)

My questions are as follows:

1. Can or should characters be able to become force sensitive? (Dormancy)

2. Should there be any limitations on their abilities? (Since they are already invested in their primary talents)

3. Should I give extra EXP to use just for their force talents? (Initially and/or after each encounter)

4. How should I reward my droid PC player to make him feel just as special? (My first thoughts are upgrades/mods)

Please let me know what you think! I look forward to any feedback and hypothetical suggestions!

The Force Sensitive Emergent and Force Sensitive Exile universal specializations are designed for this very sort of thing...characters who discover they are FS after beginning their journey. If they wish to buy into one of those specs, they spend XP just like buying any other new spec.

As for the rest, just because they’re Force Sensitive doesn’t mean they suddenly get more XP. It’s up to them to decide where to spend their XP and how they want to progress the character. As a result, there’s no need to do anything out of the ordinary to make the droid PC “feel special.”

1) Sure. As Nytwyng already pointed out, that's what the universal force specs are for.

2) Not sure what you mean by this.

3) I don't think so. If they're just discovering their abilities, there's no reason for those abilities not to be weak at first.

4) No need. Droids have plenty going for them and he'll be racking up skill ranks and talents while the Force-sensitive characters are spitting their XP between the same and Force powers.

1) Yes, which can be accomplished at any time by purchasing either the Force Exile or Force Emergent specializations. Per RAW, there's no stopping a player from buying one (or even both) of them at any point, be it at character creation or any point afterwards.

2) Nothing inherent other than they've now got something else to spend XP on, be it the new specialization or learning Force powers.

3) Nope. Part of the balance of Force users in this system is that such PCs are spreading their XP in more places than other PCs.

4) You don't need to. The fact the droid will be able to focus their XP on their skills and core specialization as opposed to spreading their XP out is sufficient. Plus, droids have a number of inherent edges just for being a droid.

a little additional hint: as long as you want to keep it an EotE Campainge keep it the EotE-Way: Lightsabers are not for PCs.

IF you ever dive into the FnD rules you (and your Players) will have better means to utilize them while not starting with the Killer beast weapon you find in the EotE/ AoR Corebooks.

(for the droid you will only have to think about compensation once to give out kybercrystals... so along as you stick to EotE... never ^^)

As others have answered you really don't need to do much, everything you need to know is already in the EotE CRB and the game has been balanced so as to have mixed Force and non-Force users without any need to add any further restrictions.

If you are finding that your Players are really interested in being Force Users I would suggest you pick up the F&D CRB. It's pretty helpful with how to use Force Powers and integrate them into your game.
