Yavaris/GH 2+3 proven non-threat

By Formynder4, in Star Wars: Armada

The latest regional in WV proves beyond a doubt that the so-called threat of Yavaris and Gallant Haven 2+3 isn't a problem at all. Not only did it not win, it failed to place in not just the top 4, or 8, or 16, or 36.

Was it present?

Not at all.

So this is a joke then?

Not a joke. Science.

Wierd Science?

I don't think it proves much of anything. I want to know what the best players flying the best sorts of lists to the best of their ability can do. That tells me something meaningful about the game. I don't want to know what I can do with Aceholes, what @Ardaedhel can do with Aceholes, or some random guy from your favorite comic score. I want to know what @Brikhause can do with Aceholes and what other good players flying their favorite lists can do against him in a top level tournament.

I mean, to put this in context, in the Burleson regional, we had one Acehole list that scored second to last. But that just doesn't prove anything.

Now, I think some top lists can come up with legitimate plans that can crack it, but that's learning how to play your list not only against a top list, but against any top player.

Of course it doesn't really prove anything, but it was amusing, especially statistically. There were more double Interdictor lists than that one.

I am really more interested in seeing a video or 5 of a Yavaris/GH 2+3, used to full effect.

I am confident I can beat a bandwagon jumper, just running it because it has a rep. I really want to see it run by someone who has mastered that list. It's rough enough planning for the ever expanding diversity of possible lists you could face, without ever being able to see one of the most dominant styles played to the nines.

It does prove something it means familiarity and player skill have a lot more to do with it than we like to think.

This thread is full of LOL

Ha! Now @BrobaFett can’t get salty if I bring it to our regionals- it’s a sub-par, non-mainstream fleet!

Join the club I think there are a thousand lists I would like to see run by people who know how to run them. Unfortunately this game doesn’t get streamed like x-wing and even then there is so much you don’t get from a stream of armada. I guess the only way to really see the lists in action is to go to Worlds or where the players playing the list are at. There is also tts and vassal, but there is a slight deviation on spatial orientation in those games that I question whether it truly shows the list being run. I myself feel that I am a better player on the table than I am on tts.

As far as vassal, I think its easier then playing on a table. Less human error due to dexterity or accidental nudging or whateves. I haven’t tried TTS.

I'm a terrible Vassal player, mostly because I visualize where my ships are going in 3d space on a 2d board much better than 2d space on a 2d board.

That and other people are a LOT better with 2d space.

So I'm both worse and others are better.

TTS is a bit better because it is a 3-D camera. The problem is the controls are a bit less precise than my own hand, and sometimes just the movement of my hand helps the flow of the game for me and tells me I am flying right. Which I don’t necessarily get on a mouse and keyboard. Perhaps the VR though I might have more luck.

TTS is nice because you still have everything snapped to the table but I appreciate having the 3d space to look around, even though it took a bit to acclimate to the spacing.

Should also add I like using real rulers to measure things out and gauge things. The computer models feel off and jerky.
