Warhammer Fantasy in Genesys

By BCGaius, in Genesys

I've been gearing up to run a Warhammer Fantasy game using Genesys, and as I looked through what I had put together and seeing similar efforts posted here, I thought I would post the material I've prepared for others to use as they see fit. Some things are still hand-written in notebooks and yet to be transcribed, but I am gradually adding to the following 'living document' / setting reference.

BCGaius' Warhammer Fantasy - Genesys

Note that as of this post I've focused specifically on what my group wants to play, hence things like the Halfling talent even though there's no 'official' Halfling race (one of my players is determined to play a dirty, thieving Halfling). While for the most part I'm happy with what I have, I do welcome thoughts & criticism on the Talents I've put together so far. The skill talents are there because unlike in Star Wars there doesn't seem to be any way to naturally expand your character's skillset over time, and I wanted certain very useful, very Warhammery skills to be eventually available for my players who aren't starting out as Lord Godkiller McGenocide III. The others are based around what my players want to play, and I'm still figuring out the nuances of Genesys' talent tiers and lack of flavorful, setting-specific talents like Star Wars has.

Some interesting ideas there although personally I will probably just adapt 3rd edition. There are a lot of similarities in regard to character creation. So I guess you are choosing to ignore Half lings then in your setting? I do think it's worth splitting the humans into their racial types, such as Reiklander or Avetlander. I think those cultures really bring the world alive.

Not ignoring Halflings, they're just not exactly a priority.

As for the human subraces... ability scores aren't really granular enough to offer much of a difference there compared to other species, so there's only room for tinkering with the special abilities. One could take inspiration from Star Wars' Corellian subrace, but for a first pass I think it's also a pretty low priority to fiddle out little starting skill bonuses or oddball traits for every permutation of human. Especially when the real differences are, I think, better covered by Talents such as devotion to the Lady of the Lake or Kislevite cold resistance or whatever.

Well I shall be probably posting a 3rd conversion in the future so it may be useful for your campaign. Each to their own if course but I don't think I will have much problems translating each race and subrace special ability. I was going to handle magic using the genesys rules but with similar things you have done. Maybe handle each lore with its own Magical Skill, so Arcana (Hysh), or Divine (Morr).

I also have a Warhammer Fantasy conversion on my wishlist, but I won't start working on this before February. Looking forward to anything I can reuse from you guys :)

I've been tossing the idea of an Age of Sigmar setting myself using the Fantasy setting and Superhero Tone to simulate the Epic Fantasy genre. Got to say the work you did is awesome, Ill definitely be using some of it myself. One suggestion I would make is leave all the talents that turn skills into Career skills as Rank 2, except for Sapper since its pretty awesome with that -2 setback ability.

Thank you for sharing your work! Have anyone thought about other signature Warhammer themes like corruption, mutations, illness and insanity?
