Does FFG make up some unique cards?!

By Lightningclaw, in X-Wing

I always wonder where FFG gets all the named characters- like who in a galaxy far far away is Wulfarroo? And Rexlar Brath?

I had no idea who Keyen Farlander was before opening Aces.

I still have no idea who (s)he is.

Enough of the pilots- what really bothers me today is the astromechs. Show of hands- can anyone tell me who R5-X3 is and what he has to do with asteroid navigation? Is there a comic about him? Is he in a movie? No? Blasphemy!

Or R2-F2, a few letters shy of R2-D2, who EVERYONE recognizes? Say R2-"F"2 and everyone's like "No, that's not a real droid."

Or MG-98- what is that, a bounty hunter featured in a novel somewhere?

Does FFG make up most of our astromechs?

maybe people read sarcasm better than I think

I have used the Wookiepedia to great effect for most pilots/crew/astromech I don't recognize.

I actually am wondering if they make up astromechs or not. But wookiepedia is good idea.

Some of the pilots are:
Characters they made for their RPG’s, like Viktor Hel .

From Star Wars Galaxies, like Talonbane Cobra

Sourcebooks, like Rexler Brath

Part of me wishes they’d make a Krayt Fang YT-1300 pack for the scum faction.

Some, like "Whisper" or "Omega Leader" are made up beucase the bad guys don't get as many named characters for obvious reasons. Others, like Keyan Farlander are from old Lucas Arts games. Astromechs are a combination of made up and obscure EU lore.

The real issue, really, is that at no point in Star Wars lore was there ever a missile that stuck into your ship and then exploded later. Now you can't throw a rock without hitting a squadron based around the goddamned things.

Keyan Farlander, is the protagonist of X-wing, you know the video game that inspired this miniature game? R5-X3 I don't know if it was named in the film's media but it does show up as a background droid in one of the T-70 X-wings from TFA. R2-F2 is again a background droid just from ANH. And MG-98 is similar to the first R4 astromech we see in ANH and is also seen a few times in TFA, including in the group shot when Rey leaves the Resistance base where you can also see R2-KT. Going through the unique astromechs and salvaged astromechs:

R2-D2: Needs no explanation obviously.

R2-F2: Made up but is given a paint job that was seen in ANH in the Rebel Base on Yavin.

R5-K6: Garven Dreis' astromech, it is hard to see but you can see it when he is in his X-wing at times.

R5-D8: Porkin's astromech, looks identical to R5-D4 since they used the same R5 head prop for the X-wing scenes.

R2-D6: From the Force Unleased II as Wedge's astromech for a battle.

R3-A2: From ESB, is seen in the Rebel Base on Hoth, though the head is notably different as with all R3s from the OT where their heads aren't just clear R2 domes like how they are portrayed later on.

R4-D6: From ANH, was a background astromech in the Yavin Base.

R5-P9: An astromech on a Y-wing during the battle of Endor.

R7-T1: From the novel Before the Storm.

BB-8: Pretty obvious and at this point (unfortunately) seems to be taking R2's role in the films.

R5-X3: A background astromech from TFA, seen on a X-wing. Or at the very least I remember seeing the paint job on one of the astromech heads they used for filming that when they showed some of them off at a show leading up to TFA, along with R6 heads and a few others.

M9-G8: Seen a fair bit during TFA at the Resistance base, and painted to look like R4-M9 from ANH.

Chopper: Like R2 and BB-8 pretty obvious.

Genius: Pretty sure just made up.

R4-B11: From West End Games RPG adventure where an agromech was turned into an assassin droid.

R5-P8: An astromech that was part of Hondo Ohnaka's crew.

R4-E1: Background astromech on Tatooine from ANH.

R5-TK: Likely made up.

Actually, almost all of the names were created by Decipher for the original Star Wars CCG back in the mid-90's.

Would not be surprised to get a Krayt Fang title when the scum YT-1300 pack comes out. And pilot cards for Trex and the starter Pregen characters.

90% of ‘Legends’ came from:

No because all of his stuff is wrong.

Nope, just someone who had a couple minutes to go through the X-wing wiki and Wookiepedia. Though, I guess that is what Pablo would say if he was trying to deny it. *X-files theme* :P

What is the nature of this complaint? Would you rather have no unique pilots/upgrades for stuff that didn't appear in films?

New Ship Ace Pilot #1

New Ship Ace Pilot #2

New Ship Ace Pilot #3 (large ship or mass produced TIE) or New Ship Generic mid PS Pilot

New ship low PS pilot

(also New Ship Generic Pilot with EPT can replace one Generic Pilot or be added as a third ‘high’ PS Generic pilot)

example: Resistance A-wing Ace #1 is gonna be hard core awesome man! Ace #2 is fun but not competitive.

See, I can write pilot cards too! Who needs names!

Ah, just like with the TFA core set and the TIE/FO and T-70 expansions. Who could ever forget "Red Ace"!? I mean he was obviously so pivotal in the film, like without him the whole Starkiller base attack would have gone differently!

You are forgetting the greatest pilot ever from that or any set: Epsilon Ace! PS 12 jerks, suck it! Always shoot first!

Star Wars Trivia:

M9-G8 is actually named after JJ Abrams nephew and niece. (Maddy who was 9 during production and Gregory who was 8.)

I wonder if it was a coincidence that they went with that paint job then or if they went with it after they found out there was an R4 units with M9 in its name.

It's all made up. All of it.

Never forget!

I prefer a totally made up "Quickdraw" than to have another "Omega Ace"...

Yes, Keyan is in comics. He is also, I believe, the only screen-canon B-wing pilot - he's the guy flying the B-wing in RotJ.

The rest can all be found with the use of Wookiepedia and a 15 second search. Once you'd exhausted the named droids - of which there are two - you've got to either be a big fan of the old EU or be willing to do research to figure out who they are.

I'm one f the people that playes the game for the mechanics first and the theme second, so it's pretty moot to me, although I think it's ridiculous that every character that is on screen is eclipsed by a few that practically no one knows or cares about.

When do we get the pink one?

There was a petition to put R2-KT into Destiny. Sadly, I don't think it went anywhere... maybe FFG didn't like the idea of being forced to do something cool via a change.org petition. But they should at least put her in this game as an alt-art or something.
