Deciding between 2 gunboats

By urbanyeti, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So my question is this: a pair or HLC Rhos or a pair of deadeye Rhos. Here’s the two builds:

Rho Squadron Veteran (30) - Alpha-class Star Wing
Deadeye (1), Proton Torpedoes (4), Harpoon Missiles (4), Guidance Chips (0)

or...

Rho Squadron Veteran (32) - Alpha-class Star Wing
Crack Shot (1), XG-1 Assault Configuration (1), Long-Range Scanners (0), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Linked Battery (2)

What are your thoughts? What are the relative merits of each? Thanks!

I have been running the Crack Rho boats and they are a blast. Solid damage and they have the ability to slow roll or go fast and still be super effective. But I have been think about switching things up. Mostly because of mirror Rho boats. I have been looking at this :

Rho Squadron Vet (21)

VI (1), Harpoon Missiles (4), OS - 1 Arsenal Loadout (2), Advance Slam (2) = 30 (x2)

This gives you 40 points to play with for a 3rd ship (im using Harpoon Vader). If you do get the mirror you now have a PS advantage also some of the other meta ships (mainly Kanan) you also out PS.

That’s interesting! Crack is good but out doing other generics could be huge especially with the slam to reposition.

I played a hlc rho and hlc karasabi today and loved them. The linked battery reroll is huge. I tried lightning reflexes on the rho and it was really helpful!

If you are running HLC/LB, I think Nus are better bang for you buck.

However, I really dig Deadeye Rhos. I build them like this:

Rho

XG-1

Deadeye

Harpoons

Adv. SLAM

Canon of choice

They can shoot, reload/SLAM around, shoot a canon, then next turn, missile again.

After running couple of games with Crack Shot HLC Rhos to get used to fly with Gunboats I changed Crack Shot to Lightning Reflexes. That is my go-to build. Really fun to fly, feels like heavy fighter, no need to spend time turning around and with HLC it is dangerous bastard
