I love the art of arc-dodging, but I sort of gave it up when I switched to scum. Now I am wondering if arc-dodging is still viable tactic, in this 'age' of turrets and bombs.
Arc-dodging in 2018?

Thanks to Harpoon Missiles yes Arc Dodging is very much still a thing.
Darth Vader and Kylo Ren are the two most fun pilots in the game as far as I am concerned and with enough practice they have absolutely zero problem dealing with most of the meta.
Edited by Boom OwlIt’s getting better and better. Harpoons are a big thing, which means that arced ships are a big thing. So there has been a bit of resurgence. That said, you still need to have a way to deal with turrets and bombs. The former is pretty easy (autothrusters), but the latter pretty much requires PS 11 and/or a minimum of 4 health, and preferably more.
As a result, Kylo and Vader are the most competitive arc-dodgers right now. QuickDraw too, but I’m not sure I would really lump her into that category. Fenn is decent, the Inquisitor has been seeing some success, and even Soontir Fel made a couple of decent appearances.
Edited by AilowynnThe TIE Silencer says hi. :3.
PTL Corran with Advanced Sensors and Engine Upgrade is also solid, if a bit low-ish on PS and expensive.
49 Corran is pretty frickin solid. Surprised we don’t see more of Nathan Eide’s Corran/Nym. Nym kills anything higher PS than Corran, and then Corran just auto-wins because PtL AdvS Regen.
Arc Dodge like the Scum you always wished to be!
PILOTS
Talonbane Cobra (37)
Kihraxz Fighter (28), Vaksai (0), Expertise (4), Cloaking Device (2)/Ion Discharger (2), Engine Upgrade (4), Autothrusters (2), Pulsed Ray Shield (2)
Fenn Rau (34)
Protectorate Starfighter (28), Push the Limit (3), Concord Dawn Protector (1), Autothrusters (2)
Genesis Red (28)
M3-A “Scyk” Interceptor (19), Veteran Instincts (1), “Heavy Scyk” Interceptor (2), Pulsed Ray Shield (2), “Mangler” Cannon (4)
I just got hosed by an arc-dodging Dash Rendar in a Regionals.
It sure is a fun way to play!
I've been having a lot of fun with the new Starviper mk II, its banked barrel roll lets you get in/out of arcs pretty nicely. The low PS of its pilots makes it a handful sometimes, but then there's Thweek. Advanced sensors Dalan is also pretty handy and very unpredictable. In the same unpredictable, pseudo-arc dodger way that Brobots can be. I'm flying Advanced sensor brobots today. Pre-boost Segnor's loops FTW.
Thanks for all the rersponses! I picked up a TIE Silencer and I can't wait to try him (Kylo mostly) out!
also @Erion_Fett thanks for that list, certainly will try that out!
I want to add that even if being up on ps it's a great tool for an arc dodger, it is not mandatory. Depends by how well you can dodge.
If you have a lot of b-roll/boost, pre move (adv sensor etc) or similar, even at low PS you can be unpredictable for high ps ships.
Of course it's better, but I wouldn't say that is mandatory. I dodged with Brobots more than once being at PS6.
Turr, Soontir, Kylo, Vader, and Whisper are making a big comeback lately. A lot of people I play with only use front-arc ships, so arc-dodging is getting really good.
But nothing beats going up to a B-Wing with three HLC Rhos and saying "EAT MY LAZORS!"
I did manage to kill Kylo Ren with a Black Market Slicer Tool in my first game against him. That made me very happy.
Arc dodging is still going strong, and Boom Owl's right, Kylo and Vader are both doing really doing well.
Also, just going to leave this here again:
Eventually, someone will join me on my BB-8/PTL Poe crusade...

I love this scene but also have to laugh when I think about how funny it would be for an arc of vomit to spiral out of his mouth in the middle of all that spinning.

The classic Soontir is also one of the few pilots that have a decent shot at avoiding that Harpoon thanks to 4 green/ AT/ Focus. He's still the scalpel in the gunfight, but just having Harpoons on the board is not going to deal with him.
Arc dodging has been coming around again, given the bomblet craze and arc-poons. I've been having a mild amount of success (and a TON of fun) with 46 point primed thrusters Kylo, 34 point targeting computer Soontir Fel, and Dark Curse (96 points). I may have to change it up and get stealth device on Fel instead just for harpoons. Kylo is in a much better spot with advanced sensors and a 5 green. His dial and abilities are pretty staggering! Its likely if there weren't ps10 bomb chuckers he'd be ALL OVER the place and THE thing to complain about. As it is, I like to let him get hit by the PS10 (you can pretty easily arrange a range 3 shot against you, especially if using Fel as a blocker). Then you never get hit again. Dark curse is in there because for 16 points he's a giant PAIN to anybody other than Poe and Guidance chipped Harpoons. He's a great blocker for ps7+ being a little more durable than that Academy pilot, just not quite as useful for lower PS. The big troubles I've had going all in on arc-dodging is that you don't really have times where you get 3+ turns of firing in. Fel is much slower than Kylo and can't arc dodge staggered harpoons quite as easy.
A friend of mine has really been trying to get an A wing to work as well, they just really suffer from a lack of attack dice. Poe is an excellent arc dodger that's meaty enough to take a few hits. I haven't seen VI RAC in awhile though... maybe its about time to start playing him again! But yeah... Vader with missles hits both the alpha and arcdodger tickers, put him in whenever you can.
I guess I'm going to have to start playing Escalation or something because I NEED to get Palp and Vader in this mix with Fel and Kylo!

Sounds to me like you know your stuff
. Maybe Saturday I can FINALLY try out my TIE/VN... I have that thing sitting on my cupboard for 3 weeks now and I haven't had the chance to try it. Any tips in advance maybe?

I wouldn't say I know my stuff... especially not now. This year I don't care about the meta because the only regional I can play in is a couple months out, so right now I'm playing fun stuff trying to still be mildly competitive. I think someone else posted a more interesting RAC build: RAC, Predator, Ysanne, Dauntless, Kylo, Rebel Captive... I don't remember everything on it and I can't find it now.
Basically I played decimators as arc dodgers as well, except they work GREAT when they bump. You can bump one ship, take that ship's shot away, and still shoot another ship with attacking mods . I personally like VI RAC with Palp and Kylo to get that blinded pilot in first, but now you may want to PS0 them before blinding. I would aim to joust with RAC (REALLY learn and know the "Rule of 11") to make sure you get that bump in 2nd turn. Then use the ace and RAC to burn down priority target #1, probably in 2 turns. Flank with your ace. If they go for the ace, bait with the ace (RUN!) and flank with RAC. You have to take as few shots as you can with RAC, as he will die quickly. Most RAC or Decimator builds incorporate engine upgrade to make it fast enough to get out if need. Look through list juggler for the strongest decimator builds currently. Its changed a LOT over the years

I've run a bit of Carnor Jax and Soontir Fel and ran them well, but I didn't run against bombs. Nym's a bit of a headache, but the arc dodgers do a good job against other parts of the list. I really enjoy TIE Strikers against bombers of any faction except a fat Miranda. They do a pretty good job at maintaining Range control to stay away from bombs or can close really quickly so they get off good shots.
