So what cheese have we already thought up?

By Ralgon, in Star Wars: Legion

Ok, so i'll preface with cards aren't officially out yet and subject to change. But what have you dreamed up that's going to be trollish or potentially game breaking?

My own examples-

The atst suppression bomb

As was pointed out in the so far, vehicle weapons for the most part aren't unique or limited unless stated in the rulebook. Triple mortar Weiss on the atst parked in a corner of the board, dropping 3 suppression just about anywhere every turn anyone?

The sons of Anarchy Speederbike gang!

2-3 speederbike units all with comm jammers doing circle work around the enemy commander.

The guns at high noon atrt showdown

triple atrt with rotary blasters..... 15 black dice with surge to crit conversion! nuff said.

Vaders zombie legion

Vader + several snowtrooper units. The snow troopers all stick to range 1, using vaders unbreakable leadership and can advance as often as they like, needing to be wiped out to be stopped. For the extra lulz add concussion grenades and flamer heavies to really up the pressure to stay out of r1, and for maximum effect also add veers to give 2 units free aim.

List me your cheese!!!!!

Naked at-rts, sound stupid doesn’t it? Well its cheap and the at-rt base gun isnt fixed

it still did, but then i looked at that close combat statline again as well and thought, "that's one mean mofo to only get hit by crits........."

Yh, i know. Later when they add more melee stuff i think i might make a melee focused list

Command Card Control Vader(battle meditation, force reflexes, saber throw) Veers(esteemed leader), 2 snowtroopers , 4 stormtroopers. All of these units are troopers meaning with battle meditation Veers and Vader get the activation tokens almost every round.

Other advantages: With esteemed leader Veers has a wall of human shields in the stormtroopers. Vader and his snowtroopers can 'scoot and shoot' their way up the battlefield rather quickly with the steady and relentless keywords. Flexibility, I have 214 points to throw onto this skeleton meaning I can kit out my corps units to counter any meta threats that arrise, or i could muddy the waters with an AT-ST equipped with A mortar launcher to hunker down in a corner and dish out suppression.

And then the objective is breakthrough and the deployment is long march and your enemy brought a ton of speeders

There is only 3ft of space between the deployment zones in long march. I can make that and take out at least one unit of speeder bikes along the way.

So far I’ve honestly not seen anybody present anything that I would consider cheese. Certainly not compared to many games.

The closest I’ve seen so far is probably AT-RT spam, but even that just looks good, not disgusting.

THis is a good thing.

Upgrades are almost certain to be limited to once per unit, like in Armada.

I take cheese is an instance of being that guy or showing up for a game of flag football in full pads; helmet with your ankles wrapped?

My impression is the card set-up/selection process mitigates some of this. Not all, as that guy will always find a way but it appears harder, given those game mechanics.

My understanding is that this game is like Armada in that no duplicate upgrade cards are allowed on a single unit.

until i see it written......... that said this is probably right, and even if not that's an awfully expensive atst unless you proxy cards.

You will be getting three though. 1 for motars, one for concussion grenades and one for sheer firepower.

I admit I havnt looked that much into the rules etc but wont ATST's spend a lot of time stood at the back shooting?

If thats the case I think its a shame the iconic 'stompy walk' wont be seen much here.?

Getting them in cc is generally a bad idea because it means they are exposed to being encircled for the "weakpoint" rear armor they have, but they do have a mean cc attack as well

Assuming you take one of each weapon. They are most effective at ranges 1-2 where they can bring 3 of their 4 guns to bare. They are slighty less effective at range 3 as they lose the DW-3. At range 4 they trade the firepower of the 88 TLBC for the suppression of the motar lancher. At ranges 0 and 5+ all you have are your fence cutters and mortar launcher respectively.

that AT-AT tactic was used by my friend in DUST...it doesn't work. the AT-AT will quickly die to anti-vehicle swarm.

You can only have 3 AT-RTs, so it's not really a spam. It does take up around 300 points, which is a good chunk.

A naked AT-RT is 55 pts. So 3 is only 165.....

I like 3 x AT-RT' each with Comms Jammer and Flamethrowers, burn baby burn! I think 285 points well spent...................

This would deny your opponent of taking any objectives, which would be very frustrating.

Played against this guy on tts who had 6 rebel corps each with a gunner. He threw 11 die for each unit. Even though he didn’t have any anti armor the sheer amount of die thrown guaranteed enough crits to take out most of my armor.

i still won though because I took more objectives while he got distracted with taking down my armor

^ and this is why i believe triple atrt rotary will be so strong.

15 black dice with surge to crit is going to be rough on armor.... and even tougher on infantry.

A littled surprised the z6 did so well, but then it bound to have it's good days and bad.

Edit: then again, when you math it it's an average of 8.25 crits a round, give or take casualties and rerolls

I have a feeling Wave 1 is going to be all about killing your opponent, with people seriously over compensating to do that.

Yeah 6 units of z6 is no joke.

According to the leaked Spanish rules, u make separate attack pools with different weapon. I’m wondering if each attack applies it’s own suppression token. If so that’s probably what the z6 is for primarily.

Laser canon on atrt is so much stronger tho with impact 3. You get 2.4 (roughly) impact hits versus 1.66 crits on the rotary. Doesn’t hurt to have range 4 too

Thnaks, I was waiting to hear that. It’s how I always expected and said, but quite a few thought it’d all be pooled, which made no sense to me due to keywords being different per weapon.

Good to know!
