How to get the Chinese Box Office Back

By Imperial Advisor Arem Heshvaun, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Is that Chinese or Japanese?

Either way, looks like about a 150% chance of cutting off your own limbs with that technique.

Star Wars never had the Chinese box office.

They did for the OT and The Force Awakens .

The studios make less that 10 cence on the dollar for films in china, you can add the ticket sales to what the movie made world wide but the actual profit for the studio is minimal.

If the film does not do well domestically that's when you run the risk of making a loss.

Disney still made $124 Million in China with The Force Awakens , that’s more than any other country in the world save the US and UK.

They were expecting to capitalize in that market with the current movie but are falling significantly there. Other Asian markets are still comparable to what they were trending with TFA.

In the Chinese market, which is still a considered the crown jewel for market overseas, the film has just experienced the biggest Friday-to-Friday box office plunge that was ever seen recorded for a big-budget wide release film.

The sequel was abandoned by Chinese moviegoers, who dropped just $553,000 into the movie’s coffers on Friday, 93% less than the $9.4 million opening day it went through last Friday.

In comparison, TFA made $52 million the first week at the Chinese Box office and $21 Million the second week.

Current trends predict TLJ will barely scrape by making $40 Million total movie run, far short of what was projected.

No they didn't they made a small fraction of that, they made between 1c-10c per dollar, non of the studios make more than that in the Chinese market.

The movie may have made 124 million Disney will receive a single digit percentage of that.

Lightsaber nunchuks. LOL. (I want one with both red and blue, like Panthro.)

But TLJ already had a bunch of weird weapons with mini lightsaber blades attached.

Seriously, WHY do you have a lightsaber edge AND a blade?

There's a very easy way to get the Chinese audience back but I'd likely get banned for saying how.

Do you mean not trying to make films with an agenda or political message and instead just focus on making one with a good story and likeable characters?

The TFA poster spelled it out. A certain kiss scene definitely played a big part in the failure in the Chinese market as well as the actress playing Rose.

Calling it now, Rian Johnson's trilogy will be an adaptation of Romance of the Three Kingdoms but with lightsabers

Bruce Lee was an American.

SIGH.

This was in part a joke based on the vid and the fact that the Chinese Box office fell short of the $40 Million projected opening weekend.

(edit of course he’s Chinese American, he was born in San Fran where I used to coach soccer.)
