From now till release day

IA is a perfect game for what Obi-Wan actually did. He was a part of the team that rescued Leia from the Death Star, entirely by mistake mind you. If they do add him i would only want it as an upgrade to luke, something like Vader's battle meditation. My favorite character is Obi-Wan but he doesn't fit in the GCW. I haven't bought him or any of the other characters that were dead before the battle of Yavin for that reason.

IA is absolutely perfect. His entire involvement in the GCW was basically an IA adventure.

Leia, 100%. Obi-wan's primary focus at the time of the GCW was protecting and potentially training Luke, not fighting the Empire. Leia was an active part of the Rebellion, operating in secret as a spy in the Senate while that was possible, then openly once her involvement to the Rebellion was revealed. She was literally part of an assault force that was going to be attacking an Imperial garrison.

Short answer: I can see New Hope Obi-Wan participating in a ground assault because of his experience from the Clone Wars era.

Longer answer: Thematically spoken, lets say the whole gang is sitting on their ship in hyperspace and everyone knows that on the destination planet, a larger battle with imperial troops is necessary. No hidden operation, just a good old firefight. Who would rather go, Obi-Wan or Leia?

Leia. Any day of the week. She is a wily commander who understands how to run an insurgency. She has shown herself in the movies, books and comics to be a brilliant leader on the ground, in space and behind the scenes. Obi Wan is an old man who fought the previous generation's war. He was a battlefield commander experienced in fighting on an established front. He was not experienced in asymmetrical warfare.

Well, seems like i stand corrected. And while i still would like to see a playable Obi-Wan (and i am pretty sure he will be released sometime in the future), i get your point. Never looked at Leia this way, thanks for the input.

Thanks for being open minded! One of the reasons I like the idea of Leia being released so soon is it might bring some more female gamers into the wargame, and as a nice change for the ones already in wargaming.

I would not be surprised to see a playable Obi-Wan, particularly if FFG somehow gets permission for Clone Wars era.

This is very important. Leia's inclusion is key to my daughter playing. Female characters she could identify with got her into IA.

I feel FFG is very in tune with this. I remember an interview on the Order 66 podcast back in Feb 2013, about ensuring the art for Edge of the Empire included bad *** female characters.

well, that is true, but no one cared in IA, so i dont think this will matter for Legion. Or am i missing something?

I would enjoy both Obi-Wan and Leia, but if you have seen the spoiler article, it looks very certain that we will get Leia and rebel troopers.

Edit: Rebel Fleet Troopers

Also, thank you guys for having a civilized conversation, I am glad that this thread did not turn into the "not pleased" articles.

You mean the Alderaanian Consular Security .

Yes, but if you translate the name on the box of the troopers, it translates to something like: "troops of the fleet"

Apparently varients on the uniform of the Alderaanian Consular Security was utilized by the Rebel alliance for other troops. Given we see troops in the uniform on Yavin 4 and it is doubtful they would all be part of Consular Security (see image).

<Speculation>As the Rebllion was attempting to present itself as something other than just a group of terrorists, using uniforms is a very good way to accomplish that goal. However, they would need a source for those uniforms, and Alderaanian uniforms that "fell off the back of the spaceship" would be an easy source. Of course, after Alderan's destruction, use of the uniforms would also be a statement of sorts. </Speculation>

From now till release day... I'll probably buy in to 1-2 new or upcoming games - watch Avatar 2 and 3 and have a lot more grey hair :P

No, seriously... (although it does sometimes feel like this game is literally on the boat in a galaxy far, far away ) I'm really looking forward to this and untill it is released I'm spending the weekends on dusting off odd pieces of terrain that could be reused and waitning on any confirmation on the actual scale of these miniatures, so that any terrain I'm planning doesn't wind up being either at tad too small or too large.... So basically I'm just waiting..... impatiently

And we are getting individual trooper previews.... So Stormtroopers today, Rebel Troopers, AT-RT, and Speeder bikes at some point... if they DON'T do Luke and Vader previews.

Well considering luke and vader don't come as seperate expansions...

Updating prior info... and with that I detect a pattern:

  • AT-ST preview
  • Stormtrooper preview
  • T-47 preview
  • speeder bike/storm trooper wave 1 announcement
  • General Veers / Snowtrooper announcement
  • AT-RT and rebels announcement
  • Dice / range ruler : Tools of war
  • Boots on the Ground, Orders from High Command, Is it the Future you see, Pitched Battle and Battlefield Recon : stories about the core rules

I would anticipate :

  • Post wave 1 Rebels and Rebel leader preview that matches with snowtroopers
  • AT-RT preview
  • Rebel trooper preview
  • Speeder bike preview
  • Posting of Core Rules
  • Posting of Tournament Rules

Been hoping Feb 8th ... I gotta bad feeling about this.

Luke and Vader are the stars of the show! Perhaps a preview hyping us up on their force abilities and how these can swing a game?

Said all along, im going away for 2 weeks 15th Feb, bet all your money on it releasing then!! :D

I have been beavering away, finished a 3x3 Tattoine board, nice buildings and matt..I would like some nice rock formations but cant find something im happy with.

Also finished a 6x3 Endor board, very happy with it and will be even happier when the Battlekiwi goods arrive(Landing Pad, Bunker, Radar Dish etc)...no doubt that will arrive Feb 15th too :D

Got nothing else to go at now, I dont want to try learn the rules now, prefer to wait to read the actual rules.

To pass time and keep in the mood im painting some more IA models.

Or in the same vein as the Stormtrooper and presumably upcoming Rebel Trooper articles, they cover the Force abilities on the article on one of them, and then try to talk about something else for the other, even thought they COULD have a combined article.

If predicted article assumptions and release rates are correct and continue as is, I suppose that puts us around the the 16th of Feb before we have legion in our hands.

They did a preview of Luke and Vader for Imperial Assault, and they don't come as separate expansions in that game either.
