From now till release day

By tgall, in Star Wars: Legion

So I was thinking what all are likely things we'll see posted between now and release day:

1) Post Wave 1 rebels that pairs with snowtroopers

2) Rules (trying to remember for Armada/Runewars did the rules go up before or after the core set was out? I seem to remember it was just before with Runewars but I could be completely mis-remembering)

3) A go visit your FLGS article for demo games? (There was a post out in book-face about Jan 18th being the first day that FLGS were allowed to do in store demos)

4) Tournament Rules

5) Other Wave 1 expansion preview articles?

- Rebel speeder

Sad thing is the longer this list of preview articles, the longer we might have to wait for the core release. Sigh.

Thanks, I had planned to go through and look for any promised but not yet delivered. Your list looks complete to me, unless there are more mechanics they will address separately from the rules. Maybe, something like terrain effects.

Don't forget about a preview of Leia (or whomever is the Rebel's second leader)

I am really looking forward to Leia. Even as a young boy she was always my favorite character. She reminded me of my grandmother: tough, smart, funny and caring. I am confident that ffg will do her justice. I am guessing the miniature will be the quilted jacket hoth uniform. If so, I hope they also release an endor poncho Leia as well in the future!

I think that will be the test to see if FFG is approaching Legion as more of a game or a game/hobby. From a pure game perspective, you would only need one version of a said character. However from the hobby point of view, players are going to want the Leia to go with the theme for their troops so I would hope we see an Endor AND Hoth.

One way that they could approach it is further on down the line they could release a "heroes of endor" pack that comes with alt sculpts of Luke, Leia and Han with some new upgrade cards and goodies. Sort of like how they put that alternate paint job x-wing in with the rebel transport.

What if when they announce the next Rebel Commander they release Luke as a T-47 pilot option?

Kind of like they have with Weiss, ie play him as a commander or AT-ST pilot.

I thought about that too. I'm just picturing a player wanting to do an Endor themed army and paint everyone as such but then have a Hoth sculpted leader. I may be wrong but I have heard a rumor about both Star Wars fans and miniatures gamers being picky...but I'm sure if its both, the pickiness would cancel each other out right? Seriously though, it may be wise for them to pay Sorastro to show people how you can paint a Hoth Leia in camo so she looks like she belongs on Endor.

the other thing about Hoth Troopers vs. Snow troopers:
Hoth troopers are just regular rebel troops with cold weather clothing. The Snow troopers were special forces.

I do hope we get Leia in Endor uniform instead of Hoth.

I’d just paint it how you want it, if leia is the one you picture from hoth, you can still paint the outfit whatever color, if you wanna do a hoth theme paint everything white and lighter cream shades. If you want a do an Endor then with hoth outfit leia then do more green and brown.

I don't know if I would use Snow Troopers being special forces as a point. Its the same as Shore Troopers being commanders and tropical experts or whatever was. There is what we see on-screen, and then a legion (pun!) of people writing reasons for it. Every movies is going to have new troopers for sole reason of keeping things from being boring and stale on screen. Also, toys/merchandising sales. Point being, they could say that the troops left on Hoth for defense were the Rebel's special ops units. I was generally surprised that the Endor inspired troops were NOT special forces (from FFG-Legion standpoint). Either way, it will be a fun ride.

I REALLY hope that there are not preview articles for all units, while I do enjoy reading these articles, it would push the release date back very far, but I think that they may only do this for vehicles, commanders (luke and vader's force powers), and maybe the anti-vehicle weapons in the infantry.

A preview of the Range Rules and Dice Packs! :P

I think I may buy 2 additional range ruler packs as to have a 4/3/2/1 length ready to go.

So thus far we have had:

  • AT-ST preview
  • speeder bike/storm trooper wave 1 announcement
  • General Veers / Snowtrooper announcement
  • T-47 preview
  • AT-RT and rebels announcement
  • Boots on the Ground, Orders from High Command, Is it the Future you see, Pitched Battle and Battlefield Recon : stories about the core rules

And anticipated :

  • Post wave 1 Rebels and Rebel leader preview that matches with snowtroopers
  • Posting of Core Rules
  • Posting of Tournament Rules

Sure feels like we're really really close to going to "shipping now"

So does FFG usually put out the core rules for a game prior to release?

Usually they do

We could still have "Preview" posts for the troops and/or AT-RT and speeder bikes... I really hope we aren't that far out but.......

I wish i could too. And while i can see the necessarity for her to come in as a support commander, in my personal opinion leia doesnt fit into the whole "big firefights with big guns"-theme for me. she was a perfect addition to imperial assault, but for legion? meh. its probably just me, but i tought of leia more like a steahlty character, using diplomacy first and being part of small spearhead operations if there is no other way out (as we have seen on endor).

while she might be fitting to be a more supportive charakter and counterpart to veers, i cant wait to see obi-wan announced.

Obi-wan was never really involved to any great extent in the Galactic Civil War era though, and definitely not as a commander. I won't hold my breath on that one!

Why do you think Leia doesn't fit, but somehow New Hope era Obi-Wan does?

As you pointed out, Leia was actually part of the Rebellion and in the canon comics is very active in the battle portion of the Rebellion following 0 ABY (EDIT: and involved in a rather pivotal ground assault, the sort of battle of which Legion is trying to capture the feel). Obi-Wan participated in exactly one stealth rescue mission of a Rebellion leader, by a group that had no official affiliation with the Rebellion (except for the droids).

Edit: Now if a Clone Wars Era army was to be released, then yes, Obi-Wan totally fits.

Short answer: I can see New Hope Obi-Wan participating in a ground assault because of his experience from the Clone Wars era.

Longer answer: Thematically spoken, lets say the whole gang is sitting on their ship in hyperspace and everyone knows that on the destination planet, a larger battle with imperial troops is necessary. No hidden operation, just a good old firefight. Who would rather go, Obi-Wan or Leia?

except Obi-Wan dies a few weeks after the first major battle in the GCW and before that he was in hiding. Obi-wan is a great character but he wasn't ever associated with the rebellion.

well, that is true, but no one cared in IA, so i dont think this will matter for Legion. Or am i missing something?
