Yes, but if you translate the name on the box of the troopers, it translates to something like: "troops of the fleet"

In the U.S. at least, consular security is carried out by the Marine Corps. Usually the best among them, as well. It would make sense that these Alderaanian Consular Security Forces were typical Marine forces, fully trained for all sorts of combat in space and on the ground.

However, there were no members of the Alderaanian Senate at the base. Leia's guards were on the Tantive IV, and her parents were both on Alderaan at time of destruction. From Wookiepedia's canon article on the unit: "Many aspects and variants of these uniforms would see service with Rebel troopers, especially on Yavin 4's Base One Massassi Group in 0 BBY."

True, but continuing the USMC comparison, they wear the same uniform in regular service as well as consular duty. So maybe my issue would be with Wookiepedia calling it Alderaanian "consular" uniform. Even though it's accurate, maybe it would be more fitting to call them Alderaani Marines, who wear the same thing on consular duty? This is all an attempt to rationalize something that originally did not have as much thought put into it during ANH production, I realize.

The protection of dignitaries is their only duty in canon, as Alderaan had disarmed ("Alderaan is peaceful, we have no weapons!"). The Alderaanian Consular Security forces only job was protection of dignitaries both abroad and on Alderaan.

The Wookiepedia article sources the name from Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide (First identified as Alderaanian consular security) which is considered a canon publication.

Ah that's true, I didn't really think that through. So I guess we're back to where this started: why do the rebels on Yavin IV wear those consular security uniforms.

Real world answer? Those were the uniforms they had on hand during filming. In Canon? Probably the uniforms were donated/fell off a space freighter.

I would suspect that pre-destruction (death star destroying Alderaan) Bail Organa may have been on Yarvin (or Leia), in which case his(her) security force would be there too.

Post destruction, kind of obvious!

That's true, Bail is on Yavin during Rogue One.

Remember, the whole "oh no! We are just peaceful old Alderaan"thing was just a cover. They were some of the masterminds behind the rebellion. We know from rebels that Leia had three hammerhead cruisers well before battle of yavin

But he left, presumably taking his security detachment with him.

Hammerheads were also considered transports depending on outfitting. Given the prevalence of piracy, transports full of relief supplies should at least be somewhat armed. It's not like they were ISDs.

Obviously he didn't take them all.......................

I just say he left a sizable portion there because he was expecting Leia to return with Obi-wan and wanted to make sure they were protected without drawing to much attention to her by sending them all with her. Remember the Battle of Scariff was a surprise for both sides.
