Weapons Guidance Kylo + Rhos

By theBitterFig, in X-Wing Squad Lists

What, did you think it was Silencer Kylo? :P

Mostly because it's funny, but Kylo-shuttle is pretty cool in its way. Should hit pretty hard. As always, when flying a Kylo shuttle, you kinda want to make sure he dies first. Too bad nothing in this list can do a Tallon Roll.

Version #1

Kylo Ren (42)

Upsilon-class Shuttle (34), Trick Shot (0), Electronic Baffle (1), Recon Specialist (3), Weapons Guidance (2), Kylo Ren's Shuttle (2)

Rho Squadron Veteran (29) x 2

Alpha-class Star Wing (21), Veteran Instincts (1), XG-1 Assault Configuration (1), Long Range Scanners (0), “Mangler” Cannon (4), Linked Battery (2)

Version #2

Kylo Ren (48)

Upsilon-class Shuttle (34), Trick Shot (0), Advanced Sensors (3), Darth Vader (3), Recon Specialist (3), Weapons Guidance (2), Hyperwave Comm Scanner (1), Kylo Ren's Shuttle (2)

Rho Squadron Veteran (26) x 2

Alpha-class Star Wing (21), Deadeye (1), Proton Torpedoes (4), Guidance Chips (0)

So Proton Torpedos are one of the few ways an Imperial ship can force a crit fairly easily. Mangler, too. The XG-1s should be fairly easy to use, but only throw 3 dice. Deadeye version seems like it's got a lot of potential upside, but there's also a lot more which can go wrong with them.

I'm a big fan of this Kylo build with ordinance carriers. I used it with bombers, but it should work perfectly well with Alphas too.

  • Kylo (34)
    • Draw Their Fire (1)
    • FCS (2)
    • Weapons Engineer (3)
    • Recon Specialist (3)
    • Weapons Guidance (2)
    • Targeting Synchronizer (3)
  • Nu Squadron Pilot (18) x2
    • Proton Torpedoes (4)
    • LRS (0)
    • OS-1 Arsenal Loadout (2)

Total 96

That leaves 4 points - maybe unguided rockets or seismic torps on the Nus, or EU on the shuttle. FCS, Weapons Engineer and Threat Tracker are a great combination with ordinance; since you use Kylo's lock, you have your own LRS lock and/or focus to modify the dice if need be, and it's less likely that you'll need to spend your LRS lock so you won't have the problem of re-acquiring it in future rounds.

I'm frequently not a huge fan of FCS on an Upsilon, but I think it works here. The Targeting Synchronizer shenanigans can kinda work with OS-1*. Last four points are, for me, 100% the title. I want that shuttle as annoying and "must die" as possible, and I think the title is the best way to accomplish that.

*Yes, yes, the Nus have to have their own TLs to use torps after reloading, but they can keep their LRS one, and only ever spend the Kylo ones.

*edit* Looks like I'd put this inside the quote. Oops.

The first option Kylo I listed would work with this pretty easily. Maybe upgrade Baffle to Advanced Sensors. HLC has that extra die over the Mangler version, to be sure. It'll be harder to trigger any ISYTDS, but if you get an extra hit from the 4-dice attacks, that's almost like ISYTDS is dealing out a Direct Hit.
