The Centrepiece

By UberMunchkin, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi folks. So after several months of no one being available to play with little plastic spaceships I finally get to play this weekend. Hopefully we'll get a couple of games in and I'm thinking of a couple of different fleet builds to try out, one of which is this. I don't often fly large base ships in my fleets so I decided to change that up. Here I've gone for a point sink centrepiece (the MC80) and some support, any feedback would be great.

The overall idea is that the MC80 tries to act as late as possible so it can use the Defiance title, the combination of Leading Shots and Hvy Turbo Lasers means that it's hopefully pretty dangerous to ships and squads alike. Engine Techs help make up for the poor movement speed and Reinforced Blast Doors gives me a bit more life. The Torpedo Corvettes act as flankers and try to inflict some hurt on other ships, Ordnance Experts and APTs means that I can hopefully push some crits through. Then the transports are there to be blockers, provide some squad support and Ahsoka to allow me to convert tokens to what I need, with Garm as the commander being able to turn a token into something I need should provide some flexibility.

Finally the Squad game, I went Shara Bey & 2 A-Wings to support as interceptors, ideally they will lock down the first wave of enemy fighters, then 2x VCX for both Relay and Strategic and 2x Regular X-Wings & Rogue Squadron to escort as needed. The command Cruiser can activate the squads as needed (hopefully). The thing I'm not sure on here is that if I am running 2x VCX with Relay do I need to take Boosted Comms or do I swap it for something else cool?

Ideally I would have tried this fleet with Leia as the Commander but I don't think I can afford her with this build.

I personally am not a fan of the command cruiser, but I know BiggsIRL has had success with a command and Garm so its a thing. My worry would be the fact you are kind of locking into a carrier, but its a ship that also likes repair and nav commands.

Just have a game plan with your commands and tokens to make sure you arent caught with the wrong dial.

XI7s are generally considered better than HTTs, because they don’t provide your opponent as much of a choice. Or QBT works well, too. Squeezing in Toryn Farr could really help your squadrons. Lastly, Advanced Gunnery and Fire Lanes could really pay off. Hope this helps!
