Seems like the perfect opportunity to digitalize this kind of game ![]()
Star Wars: The Card Game - is now done and dusted
5 minutes ago, Eggzavier said:I mostly play online nowadays since there isn't enough visible players by me to sleeve up some decks.
But I still have everything binderized!
I redid mine not long ago (went from grouped by type to by set) as I have this hope of completing my sets one day but bigger collections are just too much money for what they're likely to fill in.

Stores ended up with a bunch of dead stock they couldn't move, so they just flushed it on ebay and moved to greener pastures. The parallels to Armada are..disturbing.
I do find a certain amount of irony in that the thread about this in the Armada forums is more active than the thread in the forum for the game.
If Wave 7 is the end of Armada, I would be disappointed... but not heartbroken.
Dont get me wrong, there are still tons of ships I want to see brought in. It is far from feeling bloated, with plenty of design space left to explore. This game has matured really well, and has reached a very solid point.
At the same time, it’s like they say: you either die a hero, or live long enough to become a bloated mess with a bunch of unrecognizable units, a third faction that outshines the 2 people actually care about, and nuke sized nerfs and errata.
At this point it would be like one of those shows that was taken off the air at its peak... and not one of those shambling corpse shows that should have ended years ago but won’t die because they make to much money.
Edited by GrandAdmiralCrunchOne thing that I think a game like Armada can do much more easily than a card game can do is have community-created content. As long as the forum continued to exist with good rules people, I could see unofficial "waves" keeping the game alive for at least as long as there are people willing to play it. That community-created content would almost certainly not be able to use Star Wars IP but could use plenty of generic terms and such.

I would lose my mind if a new version of the Decipher game came out. I spent way to much time playing that back in the day. I had cut back on playing a year or so before the end, local game base had kinda dried up, and a few of the new mechanics (such as the starting 10 card side decks), seemed to force play into a one dimensional. But the base mechanics for that game were amazing, and I would throw a ton of money at whoever brought it back.
*edit* Look at that box brings back a lot of memories. Its funny to me now that they advertised the Vader and Luke that you couldn't get anywhere else, given how those versions were POSes that were really hard to get on the board, and were very under powered for their cost/forfeit value.

X Wing just seems to get more bloated and confusing with each new release. There doesn't seem to be a single ship or upgrade that hasn't had a call to"nerf it". It's got a bit silly and isn't the game I bought so heavily into a few years ago. A flow chart just to fire on an FAQ that's longer than the rules? Really??
The LCG is a great game, I must have played it around a hundred times or more. It's still viable without any further expansions but I expect the player base will slowly dwindle.
As for Armada I think it's in a great place right now and I sincerely hope it doesn't go down the same road as X Wing or worse, the LCG
Edited by Bolshevik65Soooooo... what would a second edition of the Decipher version of the game look like? Could they do it and ignore TFA and TLJ? Just use the old EU now Legends stuff? Would it get era locked? What would be the biggest rules changes needed and cleaned up?
My biggest reason to see the Decipher game continue is to see official content from Attack of The Clones and films since then.

I keep having visions of something on the lines of the DSII starter decks only with the clones and droids.

Yeah, I'd like to see this sort of thing.
I'm sure they could have self contained sets or eras, sort of like they did with Endor / DSII and Tatooine / Coruscant / Theed, but you could always mix and match those also.
Nothing some deckbuilding regs or tournament rules couldn't take care of.

I've always thought that Endor and DSII were the strongest sets in the game. I always had the most fun with MtG with the preconstructed theme decks. I don't think you'd want to do away with "anything goes" but it seems to me a design emphasis on "scenario" style things would be more to my taste.

DSII was my favorite by far. I pulled two UR Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight. Had to eventually buy the emperor though, but it completed the set.
Premiere / NH / Hoth restricted tournaments were also fun.
Next game on the chopping block, SW:IA

Things aren’t looking promising. They haven’t had a new announcement since last May.

Given the App was just released I think it has some life left.
I would expect campaign expansions based on Rebels, Rogue One, or the new movies at some point/

How many expansions did Descent 2nd Edition get after its app was released?

While I'm fearful that IA is going to face the cut sooner than later, it is very different from Descent in that it actually has a fairly active Skirmish game to go with it. And that the star wars property is still easier to sell than generic fantasy land.

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if they did a spin-off. Droid Assault for Clone Wars era, or First Order Assault for Sequel era.

I wouldn't really mind if they no longer do any box expansions for IA as long as they keep releasing app campaigns and maybe regular campaign books. Although little hero packs with two or three new heroes every now and then would be cool. Otherwise there's already plenty of stuff, at least for me personally.
That'd probably be bad for competitive skirmish though.
Does IA skirmish still have a place now that Legion is coming out?

RIP SWLCG.
If my experiences with SWCCG are any indication, I'll keep playing this game for years.
I now own full collections of TWO defunct SW card games.
Yay?

In case you weren't aware. I still have all my cards for it too.

Of course, my husband wishes like **** that I'd get rid of them, lol. I'm selling off my x-wing stuff today, but still keeping the CCG cards.
