Star Wars: The Card Game - is now done and dusted

By Drasnighta, in Star Wars: Armada

Booo. I like that game. Don't play it competitively, but the wife and I like playing at home on occasion.

On the bright side, clearance sales here I come!

RIP SWLCG

GG.

RIP SWLCG.

If my experiences with SWCCG are any indication, I'll keep playing this game for years.

I now own full collections of TWO defunct SW card games.

Yay?

They will always have FFG Interactive to resurrect such games. Perhaps some of your favorite card games will show up in digital format someday? Personally I'd love to have Destiny available in digital format.

I hadn’t heard they were retiring it. I thought this was just the last pack in the cycle not the entire game.

From the article:

"In addition to being the final Force Pack of the Alliances cycle, Promise of Power marks the completion of Star Wars: The Card Game. Over the past five years, Star Wars: The Card Game has seen five deluxe expansions and six cycles of Force Packs, ranging from the Battle of Hoth, through the pilots of the Rogue Squadron cycle, the forest battles of the Endor cycle, and the most recent changes of the Opposition and Alliances cycle. With the conclusion of the Alliances cycle, the game will be complete, and the Star Wars World Championships in May will be the final Organized Play World Championship for the game."

Sad for folks who enjoyed it. Probably good for FFG though to trim some of the properties. Its felt spread too thin lately.

I wonder why they are retiring it? Has it not sold well?

The LotR LCG seems to be cranking along, and it’s been out longer.

-Edit -

Looking over at the LCG forum, it appears some think Destiny is to blame. The thinking is that FFG only released the last cycle as a hedge against Destiny bombing. I guess Destiny is doing well enough to retire the LCG.

I still have a binder full of those somewhere.

personally, I’d like a Star Wars version of the LotR or Arkham Horror LCG’s that have solo play.

Duplicate post. Whoops.

Maybe Destiny leeched all the demand?

The forum seems riddled with "how dead is the game?" posts going back well over a year ago.

Not exactly a bustling hive of activity over there either. Threads on the front page from last summer that haven’t been posted to since that same time.

My question is if this is a one time event or if they're going to start consolidating games.

The only way going forward, to eliminate a game is to have a battle royale and the last game standing gets to remain.

Like this.

I mainly get nervous feelings because the STLCG was plagued by lack of local interest in isolated metas, driven by spotty releases in the first couple years of it's life. Stores ended up with a bunch of dead stock they couldn't move, so they just flushed it on ebay and moved to greener pastures. The parallels to Armada are..disturbing.

I do find a certain amount of irony in that the thread about this in the Armada forums is more active than the thread in the forum for the game.

FWIW, the main forum for SWLCG is over on cardgamedb.com.

I would be so on board with a revision and cleanup second edition of that game in the LCG model. I looked at the LCG and it just felt like all it would do is make me miss this game even more.

There were quite a few ties / references to the old CCG. You could tell the designers were fans.

But seriously, if FFG re-released the decipher game either as a CCG or LCG I would buy the absolute **** out of it.

Why is that? Is there something special about those boards that the FFG boards doesn’t have?

From what I remember when I got into these games, CGDB was a third-party resource that FFG ended up purchasing at some point.

I mean, I personally started using it because you could browse the cards and also there is/was a deckbuilder.

Its probable that FFG did not have good dedicated boards at the time.

I think there is a card database over there that makes it easier to reference cards in the discussion.

I've been really wishing to dust off my own collection and get some games in but...

I mostly play online nowadays since there isn't enough visible players by me to sleeve up some decks.

But I still have everything binderized!
