Best L5R forum?

By Gym Kirk, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

So where do all the L5R people hangout? Is FFGs forum THE forum for L5R?

Lots of activity on the discord channels

If you are looking for specifically forums, each clan has a forum (you can find the list somewhere in this forum) and probably reddit? Though a lot of people hang out here. The best discussions I've seen though are on discord.

My vote goes to discord. It is way more active than these forus and there is lots of great discussion and even a league that is run.

Its pretty frustrating that most conversation happens on discord. Its not good for archiving conversation, and as such opaque and unfriendly to lurkers.

Thanks for the info

Agreed. There are various facebook groups that are a bit better.

The Dragon Clan forum still has some people but the overwhelming majority of discussion happens on Discord these days. I'm not a fan but if that's where the community is, that's where I've had to go.

I know its there I just can't find the attraction in it. Its a clunky old style interface with no real sorting for threads so its far to easy for things to get mixed up. I realize its good for mobile viewing but that is really all its good for.

Discord is an updated version of IRC that supports phone and voice chat, and serves a purpose for real time communication. I do actually agree there is some value to a standard forum for discussions, but people seem opposed. I agree on the lack of permanence (even though nothing is ever really deleted) since there is always scroll.

Ah, millenials, all they want is a quickie (talking about chat of course) with no strings attached. Discussing L5r like its tinder.

Old folks looking for meaningful interactions will stick to forums.

If you are looking for in-depth analysis and discussion, saved for future readers in Clan threads detailing the evolution of that Clan since Core. the forum at cardgamedb is probably the best old skool forum. A friendly bunch of regular posters too.

Have you ever been on the Discord for L5R? Both Discord and forums are good and I would say there are far more meaningful interactions that are going on the Discord than on this forum at least. I have not been on the Facebook groups (I don't have a Facebook account and I had a flip phone until about six months ago ), but I am sure they are good. I would say just utilize all resources. Plus, the really helpful pieces of information are pinned and if you need to, you can just take screenshots or whatever of the conversations. In addition, it's not just millennials on discord....

The problem with Discord is if you aren't there when something meaningful gets said its very easy for it to get lost in the clutter or superfluous comments that follow it. I'm on the discord and find while there is occasionally a useful idea that comes up , most of the time it gets drowned out by the noise of me to chimes unrelated questions of comments that are flying at the same time. This forums are better for finding a specific topic as you can easily search for a thread on the subject and see everything relating to it. Normally once you get past the second page on most threads it has deteriorated to the point of private chat, but that's actually handy as it keeps the topic off the feed of those who may not be interested in it anymore.

It's almost impossible to track any info in the discord server. I really miss the good old forum days.

For the most part the folks on the Discord are fine people, but I cannot stand the medium.

Nope, this is the internet. Jokes are meant to be taken as trying to be offensive.

"Edit: warning, sarcasm ahead. "

I'm offended that folks are offended.

Best offense is defense it seems.

Go now, little grasshopper, and show the world your wisdom.
