Honest question. I wasnt able to find a difference from the FFSWRPG to Genesys Defense Rules. Am I missing something?
I'm currently considering porting parts of the the vehicle combat, such as Brace for impact and the Mechanic around Gain the Initiative. Rest seems to be the same.
I personally dont see any need for the hacking Rules in SW, they seem rather bloated (and remind me of Shadowrun decking, with a twist).

1. They changed the Star Wars Defense rules after the fact in their errata documents
2. The Genesys vehicle combat is easier to grasp in my opinion, a lot of that has to do with better explanations and a few changes to the dice pool structuring.

Yeah I'm on the same page with the vehicle combat rules.
Regarding the Defense Rules, I was refering to the Base Release of Edge and I havent found any differences to Genesys apart from that Defense can be max. 4 . Can elaborate whats different? (Since I find most of the new rules atleast interesting to read and take whatever fits better).

Genesys has no defense arcs, just a base defense stat.

I did mean personal defense rules. Originally there was a lot of confusion regarding Defense and how it applied because the Devs changed their mind a few times on how things do or don't stack. The books clearly stated that Defense doesn't stack yet the Devs would muddy the waters with their responses on what does and doesn't stack. On top of that, there was no cap for personal Defense in the original ruleset.
In Genesys and later on the errata for the Star Wars games, it was clearly laid out. There are things that grant defense and things that add to defense. Granted defense never stacks but added defense will always add on top of your granted defense, to a cap of 4 defense for either melee or ranged. I posted before the Star Wars errata was released, so my original intent was to bring the Genesys defense rules into Star Wars (which was officially done later).
I went beyond that for my own home games and did a bit of a houserule for granted defense. IMO, you shouldn't have to choose defense from armor or cover and it makes little sense logically. With that I changed cover to add to defense instead of grant it.

In a similar vein of thought I have been considering trying Guarded Stance and Cover as Upgrades to the check instead of Setback, but that’s for a fantasy setting where sword and board makes Defence a really common thing
