Timewalk - only Asajj?

By GreenDragoon, in X-Wing

Timewalk Asajj is the Shadowcaster with Glitterstim + Countermeasures. This pushes a large base, high HP ship with native 2 agility to 3 agility and focus against every attack.

Importantly, Asajj will get two additional evades: one by evade action, (usually just) one by Latts Razzi.

Is the same build possible and feasible on other ships?

There are several other ships that can do the same, upgrade wise:

Dash

Dengar

Scum Firespray

Brobots

The former two are already quite good and have a real turret, the latter two can use evade like the Shadowcaster.

How crucial is Latts here? How important is the evade action?

These questions should also tell us about weaknesses of Timewalk Asajj, how she can be beaten. Is a block crucial to prevent the tokens? Is it crucial to stay out of range 1-2 to prevent Latts? If you answer both questions with no, then Timewalk Dengar and Dash could become a thing. Right?

you forgot the second set of stims, noone esle can do that. Also latts is pretty easy to trigger because assajj

Yes, but the second set will not matter in that one crucial turn where Asajj can ‚timewalk‘ into another turn. And that‘s something these other 4 ships can do, too.

Why is it called “timewalk”?

Please explain this "timewalk". I have no idea what's going on.

I'm not sure, but perhaps it's a term borrowed from a Magic: the Gathering card?

Image.ashx?multiverseid=383131&type=card

As I understand, it makes the opponent waste his turn (shooting Asajj probably won't do anything with Lone Wolf + 3 dice + glitterstim + 2 sources of evade, it can reliably shrug off even 4 dice attacks), so you get "a free turn" so to speak. Am I right? Do I win a cookie?

'super good tanking'

Timewalk was a Magic TG card that reads: Take an extra turn after this one.

The reason this Asäsajj-build is called timewalk is because you basically are invincible for one turn when popping Glitterstim, Countermeasures, using Latts and having an evade all at the same time. So she takes an extra turn after that one.

My question is now: does this work on other ships, too? Specifically on Dash and Dengar?

THANKS for the info. As someone who has never played Magic, I'm oblivious to these references.

Yay, I was right.

Also, Dash and Dengar not only don't have an evade action, Dash can't get an Evade from Latts and Dengar is unlikely to.

It's not the same, though, both can always blank out, and even then Asajj has 2 evades, while Dash and Dengar have 0.

However, both can hit stronger than Asajj, with some caveats.

If you're going for pure survivability for a turn or two of focus fire, Asajj>Dash/Dengar.

Do they have Evade and Latts Razzi?

No, I know they don‘t. Does that then mean that a block and secondary weapon from range 3 breaks timewalk Asajj?

If you can simultaneously block Asajj and hit her from range 3 with a secondary weapon you will successfully sidestep many of her defences and deal some damage.

Now you just need to do it three more times and she's dead!

Blocking won't help - much.

Also, CM removes an enemy Target Lock.

So she can easily shrug off a single R3 secondary attack and ignore another.

Sure, but she won‘t have countermeasures for three more times and will have to fly a more predictable green move now.

While I definitely care about TLs for missiles - HLC or TLT does not care as much about a removed TL. They won‘t be ignored as easily.

Unless you think it is still ok. Which means Dash and Dengar could also use the same build.

LW Dash with Rey is already relatively tanky. Adding CM improves that, and Stim means he can keep the focus for later or dish out more damage.

The closest Big Base equivalent I can think of is maybe Kanan/Low with Recon Spec, Rey, and Draw Their Fire or Selflessness/Jan Ors on Low with a Phantom II hanging about to coordinate a second evade. Gives Kanan 2 focus tokens to reduce shot dice & 3 evades. Its kinda bad though if you just shoot Low and not worthy of the timewalk title.

TLTs and bombs are the big things that are likely to push damage through anyway. Bombs because autodamage, and TLTs because multiple attacks.

(Also, Bullseye arcs lol)

The other obvious candidate by the by is Poe, with Advanced Optics, R2D2, and a Jan carrying buddy nearby, at range 3 or out of arc - he needs to roll double blanks to not get 2 evades against a single shot, and double eyes to have to make a decision on losing his focus token, and the first shot of the round he's likely to score 3 evades. Making the buddy Lowhhrick makes him likely to get up to 4 evades. And if you do push through damage, he regens it.

Plus, Optics Poe is one of the strongest one-on-one ships. If he out-points you, he wins unless you're putting damage directly onto his hull somehow.

I can shortcut the next dozen replies as you try to wiggle your way through to the answer you want by simply being clear.

No. It has to be Assaj. Assaj combines all the ingredients required and no other ship matches it - relatively low base points cost, 2 agility, double Illicit slots, excellent green dial for Glitterstim, native Evade action, the additional Latts Razzi evade that functions as psuedo-regen.

Asajj is the only person who can be Timewalk Assaj. Just as Han is the only person who can be Fat Han, Kanan is the only person who can be Kanan, Chiraneau is the only person who can be RAClo, Dash is the only person who can be Super Dash, etc. Ships are different to each other by design and it's very rare for ideas to be successfully transportable from one to another.

Let Assaj be Assaj and Dengar be Dengar.

I'm neither trying to wiggle my way through, nor is there an answer I want to hear. I'm interested in what parts of Timewalk Asajj are crucial because that gives me hints on how to beat her. And I'm interested in whether some of these parts can be used on other ships to make them almost as tanky.

For example, this fits perfectly together with 100 points:

Poe Dameron (PS9) (33)
Veteran Instincts (1) , R2-D2 (4) , Advanced Optics (2) , Autothrusters (2) , Black One (1)

Dash Rendar (36)
Lone Wolf (2) , Heavy Laser Cannon (7) , Rey (2) , Glitterstim (2) , Smuggling Compartment (0) , Countermeasures (3) , Outrider (5)

I'm sure others had the same idea before, but I arrived there after looking at Timewalk Asajj. Metawing says no one built this in the last two months. Dash is usually using Crane, Burnoutslam or Rigged Cargo Chute.

Because Dash is better with those things, most notably with Burnout SLAM. And Poe really needs a bid to make good use of Black One - a 1pt bid maybe isn't enough but it's better than none.

Glitterstim on Dash limits maneuverability, removes your bid, and you've already got Rey for additional focus coverage anyway.

In my tests of trying out ships with Timewalk Asajj other than Fenn/Inaldra (because I don't own a C-Roc), one of my "test subjects" was Boba Fett. Boba Fett is more of a "dive-in" style Timewalk with Glitterstim, Engine Upgrade, Dengar crew, and VI. Your best setup comes from Boba diving in with a closing speed move, get into range 1, take an evade action, and pop Glitterstim. You have Boba Fett's rerolls which is similar to Lone Wolf and depending on how many other ships in range 1, better. You also have the evade action just like Asajj would have along with Glitterstim. It's not a 2 turn "Timewalk" like Asajj has, but that one dive in turn should favor Boba majorly.

What you don't have is Countermeasures or Latts Razzi. Boba can only produce 1 guaranteed evade result with the evade action where as Asajj can generate 2 (maybe more against mindlink or PTL pilots). Then add on Countermeasures against a heavy Harpoon meta or a turn where you need the extra green. Boba Fett was fun, but not enough in my mind.

I very much agree with this point. I tried Scavenger Crane a bit and the range 2 band is way to specific to get to work on Dash. You want to be at range 3 in almost all cases and Burnout SLAM is an amazing way to disengage or get behind an opposing list when necessary. That 1 pt bid is very crucial for Black One to help against other PS11 Harpoons that most of the time don't have a bid, but some people are starting to try and find ways to get a bid now.

@Stay On The Leader I did try Asajj with Boba mainly. Then I figured in the list together, Fenn/Inaldra are just better partners to Asajj when Fenn is a much better ship at range 1 anyway that doesn't give half pts.
