Jostero teamed up with Torani

Here is an interesting teamup:

Jostero: "Once per round, after an enemy ship that is not defending against an attack suffers damage or critical damage, you may perform an attack against that ship."

Torani: "After you perform an attack, each enemy ship inside your bullseye firing arc at Range 1-3 must choose to suffer 1 damage or remove all of its focus and evade tokens."

There are 2 scenarios that are interesting:

1) If Torani attacks target A and Target B is in the bullseye firing arc. Target B chooses to take a damage due to Torani's ability. Jostero naturally triggers (target B was definitely not defending).

2) Problematic case: Torani attacks target A in the bullseye firing arc. After the attack, Target A decides to take the damage. Does target A trigger Jostero? Torani's ability happens after an attack, but the target in question did defend earlier. I think Jostero can activate, but I want to be 100% sure.

my guess based on the Vader/Kylo ruling is the damage would trigger Jostero even if Taroni attacked that target.

Kylo: "When you suffer a Critical Damage during an attack you are instead dealt the chosen faceup Damage Card"
Vader: "After you perofrm an attack against an enemy ship..."

And as per faq: "The effect of Darth Vader (Crew) occurs after the attack and therefore does not trigger the effect of I'll Show You The Dark Side."

The Taroni damage is not Attack damage, so the only debate is is the ship still defending after the attack when her ability triggers.

Per the Attack Sequence chart, step9, both "after defending" and "after attacking" effects are at the same step. Meaning if an "after attack" effect triggers, the defending ship is no longer defending because he can also trigger "after defending" effects.

Jostero triggers, Ship A is no longer Defending when "after attacking" effects trigger.

I have a Torani/Jostero/Torkil thats pretty fun. Put someone down to ps0 get Torani into bullseye arc or put r5p8 so you have 2 chance to trigger Jostero. Torkil has Ion Turret and emp to help control ships and make them more predictable. So you have 33 or 4 attacks that happen before your opponents ship

Defending is a temporary status. The last step of an attack is step 7, Deal Damage. The target ship is no longer defending against an attack when Torkil is triggered, so Jostero can activate just fine.
