Raid Tokens and their effect on the game

How are people expecting Raid to play out? What is the delivery system and how reliable is it?

Honestly, until we try it we won't know. I know for me personally, most games come down to one critical turn where Yavaris essentially one shots something and I have little to no recourse to stop it.

Similarly, in my squad list, it boils down to a big alpha where I can do a ton of damage.

In 2+3 nixing the squad command on the PREFERRED carrier won't stop the squads from coming, but now they are coming in piece meal, and you have a CHANCE if the opponent isn't prepared, that you might be able to dodge them and force them to move or shoot but not both, leaving them out of position for subsequent rounds.

I DON'T think the strategy is going to be camp a Gauntlet next to Yavaris and chortle while they throw their hands in the air and say "Oh no, what do I do now." They are going to get blown up. BUT I know that if I can either sneak it in with rogue at the end of one turn to kill the command for the following turn, or launch it in my alpha as first player, no longer fearing the Yavaris counter, I might actually stand a chance. In that sense, it weakens carriers that want second player more than those that want first, which is ALSO a good thing for the game in general I think.

Against slower Rebels, you can stay fairly reliably out of range with a speed four rogue and hit in the squadron phase; you can even move Intel in the same turn. GH fighters especially don’t like leaving the bubble, so aceholes may have issues with this. And gee, as an Imp that just makes me so sad. :P But seriously, I’d be interested to hear some input from @Brikhause on this (if he feels ready for an assessment either way:))

For a similar cost to "5 Gauntlets and 2 Jumpmasters", you can take 6 Firesprays or 12 TIE Bombers, and 2 Jumpmasters. Both of those net you more hull and better firepower, and dead is better than disabled. But neither of those lists dominate the game, or preclude no/low/medium squadron lists from hitting tables or top four.

I've also had moderate success in that regime, and while Raid will probably annoy me, I'm not all that worried.

So if you need to spend a dial to get rid of the command, there are some ways you could be screwed.

If the opponent shows up with slicer tools and gauntlet fighters, you could be stuck for a turn. But if the opponent has Cham and Jyn, oh boy. Up to three turns without the right command? Shut down Yavaris or a quasar for two turns? This could be fun.

Not saying this is any good... but take a look.

This looks fun, anyway

Wouldn't first player with a Raddus bomb and with Profundity with Jynn aboard a Hammerhead be the perfect delivery system for Jynn especially since she could activate first?

Yup. Some people have been playing this. Dont think raddus is essential, just the profundity hammer

Woe be the ship I get 4 raid tokens on.

It'll depend on how the rule is exactly worded. But from the sound of the article, it limits resolving a command with the matching raid token. If that's true, then it wouldn't prevent you from discarding a dial or token, and it wouldn't block "discard"-powered effects like boarding teams and fleet commands.

Raid will be an annoyance like slicer tools, you will just have to have a plan for how to deal with it. Also like slicer tools you won’t see it in most lists.
