Hidden cards & Logical Reasoning

By Network57, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

I'm not 100% certain that Logical Reasoning can be used to discard a Hidden card. The rules for Hidden say "While a hidden card is in your hand, treat it as if it were in your threat area." However, they also say "it cannot be discarded from your hand by any means except those described on the card." Logical Reasoning discards it from your threat area. So is the Hidden card in your threat area or in your hand? Both? I think Logical Reasoning would only work if the Hidden cards are only in your threat area and thus not in your hand, but I can't find any interpretation to support that. Unless the "treat it as if it were in your threat area" implies "instead of in your hand".

That is my understanding. The "it cannot be discarded..." part is to prevent you from using card draw to reach your hand limit and simply discarding the Hidden card, or using other card discards to your advantage. As far as we've been able to interpret, the Hidden card is considered to be in your threat area, and therefore is affected by Logical Reasoning.

Matt just answered this for us:

Greetings,

While Whispers in Your Head is a Terror card that is considered to be in your threat area, you cannot use Logical Reasoning to discard it. The reason why is because of this rule for treacheries with the Hidden keyword: A hidden card “cannot be discarded by any means except those described on the card” (The Path to Carcosa, page 1). This rule means Hidden cards cannot be discarded using Logical Reasoning.

Well, that clears it up. Thanks Matt, and thanks Network for posting this!

We must have chased this at the same time - I had the same conversation with Matt yesterday!

Worth noting he also clarified for me 'considered to be in your threat area' is the same as 'is in your threat area'. It's equivalent to Massive enemies - they are considered engaged with you. There's no point of engagement, but beyond that they behave as any enemy would in your threat area - and punish you if you don't respond accordingly!

Always remember the word cannot is always absolute. So if one card says you can move and another card says you cannot, you are stuck.

Thats the crux of this answer, not what area its in.

That's exactly what I wrote in asking Matt - cannot to my read was absolute too, irrespective of 'considered as if' and so on!
