Friendly Fire Squadron

By Triangular, in Star Wars: Armada

I was just working on "squadron command" at the armada wiki, when I had a funny idea I want to share: I was thinking of a card that allows you to activate an enemy squadron! Maybe like this:

Officer Upgrade Card (4 pts)
"When you resolve a squadron command, you may discard this card to activate an enemy squadron as if it would be a friendly squadron. You cannot activate more than this squadron during this command."

It could be fun to have the possibilty to send 1 squadron 1 time against his own friends. And even if it's not possible to attack with it you could toggle its activation slider to be safe from "Luke" or "Boba".

I have problems thinking a lore reason to make someone to shoot an ally in the way you propose.

I don't know so much about Expanded Universe novels and comics and if there has ever been a unit shooting at friendly units. In the movies I can only remember Jar-Jar hopping around, making Droids killing each other. But in real life friendly fire occurs quite often. And when I was playing "TIE Figther" (CD-ROM edition) you could decide if you could shoot at/damage your own side.

I think, when you slice an enemy fighters targeting computer you could easily give him a wrong target to shoot at.

fleet support upgrade card

Fighter targeting systems. 3 points

"When you reveal a command you may discard a <sqn> dial or token and this card and choose 1 enemy sqn at close range. That sqn now makes a single attack against another friendly sqn using only the die and keywords listed on its card. You may toggel its activation slider to activated."

Reasoning - its a specialist slicer action so should take up the same upgrade slot

3 points - seems about the level for using opponents units

wording - in line with other one use discard cards such as boarding units. and stops issues about do you get to add extra die from howlrunner or other sources

Jedi mind trick upgrade.

"These aren't the droids you're looking for. Oh yes and the Tie fighter to your left just called your mum a complete bantha. Shoot him immediately, you know you want to."

Friendly fire occurs but how an enemy officer can force you to shoot a mate?

1. who choose the target?

2. Counter would work?

3. What about escort?

4. Who control the modifiers?

It isn't with squadrons, but in the Clone Wars series there are a few times when Republic troops shoot at allies due to deception.

-One trooper when the order 66 im plant goes haywire.

-Once when a jedi turned, he used misinformation to get clones to think incoming friendly we’re enemies dressed in their armor.

Nothing with starfighters like that. Maybe something the little buzzdroid could have done

take 2....

"When you reveal a command you may discard a <sqn> dial or token and this card and choose 2 enemy sqns at close range. One sqn can now makes a single attack against the other sqn using only the die listed on its card ignoring all keywords but not pilot abilities . You may toggle one activation slider to activated if you discards a token or both if a dial was discarded"

cost 6-8 points

1. Pilot abilities is not defined within the rulebook.

2. It seems it only ignores keywords on the chosen squadrons as written right now.

3. Two squadrons at close range of the ship may be even at long range each other.

4. Obstruction? Jamming fields?

1. so if you remove the comment pilot abilities it wont change them working

2. yep

3. nothing over rules the rule book on range so if you did you'd auto miss

4. again nothing over rules the rule book so they would still apply

this was a 30 sec thought so has holes you can drive a bus through...

In my version it is "as if" it would be a friendly squadron, then:

1. you choose target and move squadron

2. Counter would work (for that you could destroy "Luke" through letting him attack "Shara", when he is down to 1-2 hull)

3. Escort like always (during activation it is "as if" it would be a friendly squadron)

4. you control the modifiers "as if" it would a friendly squadron.
