Getting new people into X Wing.

By Stew00m, in X-Wing

Hey folks

I have been playing casually for a while now, we have a nice community locally but it would be nice if it were bigger.

I have been trying to recruit people to the game, lots people received a X-Wing core set from their secret Santa this year ;)

Recently I had an opportunity to blog about X-wing. I'm new to blogging so please go easy on me, but if you could check out my post and shoot me (DM) some pointers I would really appreciate it.

My goal is to reach non-gamers and get them into the this game. My hope is for future posts will talk to about casual X-Wing play and alternative formats.

Invite your friends, family, and co-workers who love Star Wars to your LGS and get them play a couple of games. Go easy on them and let them feel the excitement of rolling dice and dogfighting. It’s a lot of fun to play with people you know, but you should also look into Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for any locals in your area that would want to be a part of the scene as well.

Good luck, and may the force be with you!

Great Advice! I try to convert everyone I know. I bought core sets for family members for gifts.

What's nice about X-Wing as well is that they still get cool models they can display or play with, even if the rest of the game gets bookshelved :)

The models really are display quality, I wanted to add something to the post about how beautiful the ships are. I'm still trying to get a feel for how much or how little info to include.

The beauty of recruiting new players is that even though the game's learning curve has gone up considerably for competitive X-wing you can still pair the lists down to wave 1 and 2 stuff and keep it really simple and accessible.

You're correct my plan for article two is doing a lost on how to get start and not be overwhelmed. When we first started playing we did several battles with just the core set.

One of our local game shops does theme x-wing nights, such as only generic pilots or missions from the expansions.

Keep them away from tournaments granted, that was my first game with my collection but that was back in Wave 3 when it was a more simple time. Now thanks to Accretion it is like trying to get into Hearthstone or Magic or World of Warcraft. There is just too much and thanks to the ultra-competive the next wave is solved at spoiled so unless you are chart obsessed as those you won't know what is going on and why your B-wings don't do much damage and why your unique A-wing pilots are not the top aces of the game.

Great point about tournaments, I will cover more details this week. If you guys are on Reddit would you mind giving me some love there?
