That ship you never fly...

By Ronu, in X-Wing

Oddly enough, I haven't flow most ships I own.

Hmm... E-Wing, U-Wing, Sabines Tie and the small transporter with just 1 attack die.

That's the ships I (as a rebel) play the least. :D

Was gunna say "gunboat", but I finally got to play with the ones I ordered so that's fixed now :P

It would probably be easier to say what ships I DO fly. Most small base Imperial ships (except Tie fighters), A/B/X/Y-wings. Everything else just sits around to look at.

I think I've used the E-wing about twice. I know Corran is good because of how well he's done over the years, I just personally can't do it. It's the points; every time I write a list with him in it I start shivering and replace him with something cheaper.

K-wing.

I have two, bought them way back for the bomb and EM tokens. Never flown them, do not like the look either. Actually, I am wondering about slaughtering one of tge models in order to pimp up an ordnance Kimogila.

5 PS2 TAPs with Title, chips and cruise missiles

QD with Targeting synchronizer and harpoon chips + 3 PS2 TAPs with Title, chips and harpoon.

God no why?! I can’t t bear to fly one let alone buy duplicates.

Try them first on Vassal, or proxy. I guarantee the 5 TAPs will appear meek and doofus until you set up the inevitable Missile Trap from all directions.

The general reaction I got is:

"ahahaha hahaha wth is that 5 TAPs? You need to see a doctor man!"

"O SHI-"

"not funny man, not funny"

I look at the bomber, Kimogila, shuttlebug, and Silencer and think, 'Yes, they look fun, but....Gunboat!' And fly my gunboats instead.

GUNBLESS you my child!

im still trying to fill out my full squad if 5, just need two more! Wait, where there other ships released in this wave?

I've had a lot of fun with the following U-Wing build (I can't recall who I stole it from onhere so I can't give credit):

Cassian Andor with Expert Handling, Advanced Sensors, Inspiring Recruit, Kyle Katarn, title, Experimental Interface, at 39 points. It's a load of fun. Pre-move you take a focus or TL, then EI into EH for a barrel roll and two stress. Clear the stress with a green move and IR, then wind up with 2 more focus tokens from Kyle. I like to fly with Debris, so that there are safer places to land after a barrel roll. Stress isn't too bad to have, since even if you don't do your full combo, you can just pull a green for Kyle focus into a regular action.

It's surprisingly nimble, can shed low-PS target locks, and the sheer number of tokens goes a long way.

I tried that U-wing build tonight and did not care for it, haha!

I used it with the Ghost II w/ Autoblaster, Finn, Rey, FCS, and AP-5 w/ Chopper, Phantom II.

I actually liked the amount of synergy in the list. The end of activation coordinate can help shed high PS target locks and have final position. Then you can pop out AP-5 to clear the stress before the next activation phase. There are a lot of neat little tricks in the list.

However, even the nimblest of U-wings sucks to bring around. If someone gets behind you, it's over. They did, and it was.

I'm skeptical of high-PS glass aces in general. Not that top-tier people can do work with them, but that I can.

I suppose I've only flown one of my two E-wings once as well. I keep trying to come up with either bundles of cheap upgrades to slap on Knaves or Blackmoons, or some kind of list that would synergize with E'tahn.

I play rebel. I don't fly anything after wave 4 much, with the exception of the T70 xwing.

I don't fly my Falcons, only have them because of cards and to give them to new players when they need a bit of an ego-boost and to teach them the value of avoiding arcs.

I think the generics will always be too expensive to be worth it but I once got slapped around by an E'tahn list that had an Auzituck with Bistan and Tactician. It was a lot of crits and stress.

Purely for stupid fun, I might consider:

Cassian Andor — U-Wing 27
Daredevil 3
Advanced Sensors 3
"Chopper" 0
Hera Syndulla 1
Engine Upgrade 4
Pivot Wing 0
Ship Total: 38

It’s stupid! But I bet it’d be fun to activate with that 1-hard Daredevil maneuver, flip Pivot Wing to the 180 side, reveal a 0-stop, flip the ship 180, then flip Pivot Wing back over. I could consider Inspiring Recruit instead of Chopper to help shed the 2 stress, but Chopper is cheaper and lets you keep doing it despite the stress if you need to.

What EPT & Astro do you think E’tahn wants... maybe Juke with Flight Assist? (EDIT: or Intensity...)

PtL, Adv sensors, R2-D2. Etahn is a force multiplier so people will want him dead. Make it hard for them so those crits can pile up. The main reason he struggles now is that he works best with 3-4 wingmates so he can maximize crits, but generics like Z-95s just don't have the punch anymore.

He was built for epic. Keep him back at range 3 with a wide arc and he is just priceless. A few weeks ago I used him and his 7 wingmen had no trouble landing around 7 or 8 total extra crits because of him, including 3 direct hits. Alas, I have yet to come up with a 100 point list where I feel I can get value out of him.

I took this to the top table of a store championship in 2014. Went undefeated through swiss and lost to an Echo/Chiraneau list I beat earlier. The list absolutely shreds decimators and Echo only survived with 1 hull (having rolled a crit instead of hit on a major minor explosion).

Sadly, it's a bit of dinosaur now. But once upon a time it caught a lot of people by surprise.
