Holdings question

By Saifur, in L5R LCG: Rules Discussion

I cant find enough info about holdings. Can someone clarify this for me , thanks in advance. How many holdings per deck can you have, how exactly do you play then, how do you place them on provinces ? During game setup, or you draw them like regular cards , and place them on top of provinces ? And in regards to deckbuilding, how many should a good deck has ?

You can have any number of holdings in your deck, but generally I see people running between 3-8, maybe more if they're very temporary like Windswept Heath and Imperial Storehouse.

Holdings go in your Dynasty deck as part of the 40-45 cards, so they'll show up in your provinces naturally when you're refilling it. As soon as a holding is turned faceup in your province, it is considered 'in play' and you can use its abilities. You don't have to pay fate to put them into play. For this reason, you might be tempted to play a lot of holdings, since they're free effects, but while they're in your province, you don't refill the province with a new card, so the cost is that you see fewer characters to play with, giving you more chances to have poor turns.

Thanks a lot. So if the holding is drawn in my hand ,i can just play it on top of my province ?

Saifur, your Holdings are placed in your Dynasty deck, along with your Dynasty characters. Thus, you can not draw them into your hand because they are not Conflict cards.

Oh yes , right , i just realized that going through the rules again. If if dont have enough cards to build the strict tournament decks ( 40 to 45 cards in each dynasty and conflict decks ) , for a casual play , is there a different minimum number of cards i can have in each deck? i got the expansion packs and 1 core set, but I dont think i can get more than 20-25 cards in each deck if i want to have more houses to play.

Ok, so 30 cards in each of the 2 decks should be fine for casual play. Until i get more expansions, or may be another core set. Thanks.

With 1 core you supposed to be able to build two 30 cards deck. Rule book got deck list for one Crane and one Lion.

can also check those

No, you're supposed to be able to build only one. There are just not enough neutral cards for a second deck. The Crane and Lion decks given in the Core Set don't have 30 cards.

Yea i get it , but it doesn't matter, already made all houses decks with around 30 cards in each deck. I am sick of the greedy corporate ***** from FFG who keep selling all their LCG with no enough cards to build more than one or two decks. It was the same story with LOTR the card game , same with Game of Thrones and Star wars. Well no thanks , not buying 3 core sets. Over the next months i ll add more cards with every expansion pack coming out. Until then , 30 cards decks it is.

Personally, I like the "sampler" method for LCG. I bought one core set of Arkham Horror, realized it was not a game I wanted to invest time and money in, and I was only out $30 instead of $60. Not even that since I traded it in a sweet deal as I kept it sleeved and in pristine condition.
