Playing Armada with my 5 year old Thrawnette

By Funk Fu master, in Star Wars: Armada

So being summer holidays and a rediculous 42 deg outside, have been cycling through our selection of boardgames suitable for 5 year olds at a rapid pace. After they were exhausted, it was time for something unsuitable ?

So I give you the abridged Armada rules (call it Flotilla?) For pint sized admirals.

1. No objectives

2. No upgrades

3. No command dials/tokens

4. No critical hit effects

5. Fighter phase, fighters can move and shoot.

6. When moving a ship, you can declare before you move that you are increasing/decreasing your speed by 1.

Thats it. It was simple, fun and I got to play with star wars toys with my daughter for 2 hours in a controlled manner. Like I do with x-wing, I will slowly introduce more rules to her as she gets used to it.

Oh and if your wondering, she tabled me ?

That’s a great idea! It’s great she grows up with it, meaning she’ll have a natural affinity when she’s older, specially with maneuvering, infancy is the time you learn stuff the easiest!!

The force is strong on her... the dark side calls for this uncanny raw power!

Always let the little wookies win! :-)

Glad she enjoyed it, must start working on my 6 and 4 year old kids.

Played my 1st and only game of Armada against my 3y daughter. She picked Imperials, Rebel Scum for myself. I did the moving and rules. She was throwing dice and deciding where to move her VSD and squadrons. Man, the Rebels didn't know what hit'em. No mercy was shown. ;) Those dice rolls were savage. :)

That's great. I bring my almost three year old down to my Armada table when I'm building lists sometimes or setting up for a game. He loves to role the dice and take the ships (will I watch) and pretend they are flying... Woooosh. He will be a squid head admiral some day.

I play Armada with my 4 year old pretty often and he absolutely loves it :)

We play with only the spd 1 template, all ships roll 1 black dice and shoot at long range. We each get one ship, whichever one he likes and I pick one from the opposite faction. All ships have 7 hull. Shoot then move. We flip a coin for first.

Hit crits are 2 damage, hits are one, blanks miss.

Its super simplified, but we have a lot of fun with it. I cant wait till he is a little older and I can start adding in more rules. Probably add in speed changes first as you said.

Fantastic. Mine is 14 months, so his skill is limited to hitting his toolbox with a VSD. :)
