What's the meta and the player base like in Hawaii? I'll actually be there when the Hawaii Regionals are going on, and am debating on whether or not it's worth it to pack in a list or two. And whether or not I need to go full meta (like with the Atlanta and Tennessee Regionals in Feburary) or I can bring something fun and not run into a bunch of WAAC players.

It's always worth it to bring a list. ALWAYS...........

Yeah....but it's also a 10 hour flight and I'm limiting myself to one non-checked bag and one carryon for a 5 day stay. I can probably fit in a plano box with everything for one list, but two lists would be stretching it, and it also depends on if I have to go full meta or I can throw out something silly.

Have you thought about packing more lists and less essentials?

I have, and that's with going down to the bare minimum for essentials. I ain't going without clean underwear, man!

I have no idea what their meta is like. Often times I find that when I travel, even when I pack a list I rarely get to play. Enjoy Hawaii!
I brought just my bases and sliders, reduced potential damage to models and hugely reduced space needed. Printed out lists at the hotel. Borrow damage deck, dice, range rulers, templates, rocks and tokens from someone. Alternatively you can bring a few of these.
There are two lovely FLGSs in Honolulu. Armchair Adventurer has an especially supportive community, I’d recommend making a post on their facebook group asking about the prospect of gaming with them when you’re in town.

Well, they are hosting the Regional while I'm going to be in town. Do you happen to know what the usual numbers are for players? Is this gonna be 80+? Or less than 40?
Certainly fewer than forty, but thay’re an enthusiastic bunch.

Small and enthusiastic is usually a great thing, makes for better matches and a fun atmosphere.

No, fortunately not. I much prefer a nice tropic heat than a desert heat anyway
I almost hesitate to say it, seeing as this is the X-Wing forum after all and I’ll probavly get burned at the stake for even suggesting it, but...
You can play X-Wing almost anytime- get outside and enjoy Hawaii man! If you’ll be near Laie go to the Polynesian Culture Center and catch a show! Go to a luau! Go to the beach and get a tan! Take a tour and go sightseeing! Do that helicopter flight over the active volcano that they do! Take an introductory surfing lesson! Buy a ukulele and teach yourself how to play the imperial march on it! There are so many amazing things you can be doing!
You can get back to pew-pewing when you come back from your trip.

Normally I'd agree with you....but it's also a Regional that weekend. I can spare 1 day of my vacation (or 2 if it's a massive Regional) to play at an X-Wing Regional
Ha, I am leaving right now for Hawaii, but I did not think about bringing X-Wing. (Like, about to board the plane.)
3 weeks of work for me though.
