Vader Command Deck

By Trudem, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

What are some of your go to cards for him. I am having a hard time deciding on the lat four or so of my deck so I am curious what cards you guys prefer.

We would be able to give you better advice if we know what deployment card list you were running with him. Could you share that? It makes a big difference in how I weight my CC picks.

Oh sorry.

Vader w/ Driven

Palp

2X EJets

2X Reg Officers

Zillo

standard Vader right now. I’ve tried several variations of my deck but struggle with the last four or five because there are so many options now.

I have seen Rally be useful for Vader/Palp lists. Getting hit with Stun will just shut you down and Rally could help.

Edit: If you could include the CCs you've already settled on, that would help too.

Lure of the Darkside - 3

Force Surge - 2

Call the Vanguard - 2

Force Jump -1

Face to Face - 1

Death Blow - 1

Rally - 0

Looking for a Fight - 0

Force Rush - 0

Planning - 0

Parry - 0

Brace Yourself - 0

That is 13/15 cards and 11 points. I can add Palp's card and Grisly Contest if I want. I was more asking if I have any obvious omissions in other people's eyes.

Jump jets is also good value for 1 point

I think you could drop Lure of the Darkside for some extra points. Then you could drop Brace Yourself for Brace For Impact, its 1pt more but an easier card to use on defense. I'd also slip in Take Initiative and Negation, dropping Deathblow or Looking For a Fight if needed.

Appreciate the insight. I have until tomorrow morning to decide but I will think about it the whole drive.

I think Jets, Vader, and Palp all can benefit a lot from Urgency and would look for a 0-point slot for it...

I really like using Officer's Training and Prepared For Battle with Vader. Brace for Impact is really good, too, for protecting Palp or the eJets. You also might want to make room for Fuel Upgrade, which'll help protect your eJets while they run objectives or flank.

Armed escort would be pretty good in your list.

Also Overrun for the ejets. 2 unmitigated damage on 1-3+ figures is absolutely broken. It's what makes the ejets so frustrating to face sometimes- no other figure can pull off that kind of sheninagans (grenadier combined with it can be insane)

Add take initiative and negation. Parry is redundant with Zillo so drop it. Maybe drop force Jump too.

*edit: didnt see you only had 11 points. Grenadier would fit nicely

I would argue it's not in certain imp lists. If you are running multiple brawlers or sentry droids you can play this card and zillion another one to add 2 blocks, which can be huge. I would probably run it only with rule by fear, planning and officers training to get that extra card draw too.

Dropping two command cards is a huge price to pay for 2 blocks. Yes there are some situations when it would come in handy, but in general Parry loses a lot of value with Zillo

2 command cards is totally worth it to save Vader. If you are relying on Vader to do heavy-lifting you can't afford to let him die quick to Assassinate, heightened etc shenanigans. So i would happily throw in a stealth tactics/brace for impact, then throw down parry and then zillo another card to quick Vader breathing fear into the air :) So ultimately it depends on how you value what you value, I guess.
