Has to be Gilad Pellaeon, right?
Would he be “just” a Captain?
Seems like a low ranking “Commander”.

Haven’t watched Rebels recently...I suppose this card will be someone named “Commander Karyn Faro” instead.
Another dagger in the heart of the EU.

Faro is from the new Thrawn book. It's a good read.

@GiledPallaeon is a fool* deserving of no such high rank, ion cannon slot at best.
*Note: Consider Giled's reaction before reporting my post, I am not suggesting that it is ok to insult people willy nilly, or that he is actually a fool.

I read that book. I guess I forgot her.
Still hoping (unreasonably) for Pellaeon.
Either way, likely a Zahn character and not from Rebels. That’s good...

Captain of the Chimaera.
I think it’s Piett.

I’d like that, too.
The captain is probably Brunson.

TLJ left such a bad taste in my mouth I went and put some novels where Luke isn't someone who would consider killing his sleeping nephew. The old EU stuff could see a bit of a renaissance. They didn't seem particularly willing to let it go out of print either when they nuked it.
Really for me the best "new" Star Wars at the moment is Rebels and the new Marvel comics stories. Those creators seem to get all of this much more than those in charge of the films.

Yah he is willing to face the emperor to turn his father who actually committed crimes...but I will kill my sleeping nephew because he might be a bad guy eventually...

Mark Hamill was quoted as saying to the director of the new mess, “I disagree with every decision you’ve made” regarding Luke’s character.
I wholeheartedly agree.

I feel like we watched a completely different movie. How did you come away with this?
Spoilers below
They maintained Luke's character very well.
Firstly, he did not intend to kill Ben, nor did he ever even consider it.
He was worried about his nephew, and he did what the Jedi often do. Tried to see the future. When Luke read Ben he saw everything He'd become, Kylo Ren, the of killing Han, wiping out the temple, the trillions of people vaporized by Starkiller, everything that's happening in this trilogy, all the pain and loss and destruction, and Luke reacted. Reaction is in NO WAY contemplation. The moment Luke thought about it, he stopped, which was literally seconds after seeing everything he'd ever cared about destroyed and everyone he'd ever loved murdered. What universe do you live in where Luke was so far beyond human that he wouldn't react to a force vision that strong? He's never been good with force visions, he abandoned his training because his friends, people he's only known for a few years at this point were being hurt... not even killed, just hurt... ****, Anakin turned to the darkside for a trillion times less and actually committed to it... for years...
I mean, where did people get this perfect image of Luke? He was just as flawed as his dad, that was the whole point behind the imagery of Luke losing his hand, the whole point behind that eerie *** vision he had on Dagobah, that if he didn't take a non aggressive route he would become Vader. Does no one remember when he gave in to his anger to beat the living **** out of his father, but just barely managed to stop when he saw that he was turning into the same thing as his father?
HOW IS THIS NOT THE SAME THING? The moment he actually thought about it he stopped, because he WOULDN'T EVER KILL HIS FATHER AND HE WOULDN'T EVER KILL HIS NEPHEW.
Luke got caught in a destiny trap paradox. It's a common thing for force users, BECAUSE they can see the future. Anakin did it. Palpatine did it. Now Luke has done it. You can't change history if you're part of it... He saw the future and for just a second he reacted to prevent it, and ended up causing it.
Sorry Frimmel, I know this is the 2nd thread you and I bumped heads in about TLJ, I'm not trying to be a ****, I just cannot understand where this "he can do no wrong" image of Luke came from.... He has always been a flawed character...
"No no no, THIS one (Chimaera commander) goes here, THAT one (TLJ discussion) goes there (The TLJ thread)!"
Just now, geek19 said:"No no no, THIS one (Chimaera commander) goes here, THAT one (TLJ discussion) goes there (The TLJ thread)!"
Sorry lol
INB4 the hidden commander is someone from the EU that no-one remembers but was included because "Oh, he looked at Thrawn that one time! That means he's important!" when really they were a background character only placed there to prove Thrawns superior intellect.
(Honestly, unless Rebels brings the guys back into cannon, I don't think any of Thrawns old crew will be included, as frustrating as that must be.)
Edited by Indy_comTo be fair, Pellaeon’s literary role in the Thrawn trilogy was likely just as you mention, Indy_com: to provide a foil for revealing Thrawn’s brilliance and unorthodox behavior.
Thrawn does seem to be training Pellaeon along the way, too. I’d wager a Thrawn-trained right-hand man is more dangerous than a “regular” Imperial.
I suppose it’s not meant to be, however.
If there's going to be a sub-commander to Thrawn, it should be Palleon just as an acknowledgement of his longstanding and influential role in the universe.
As I recall, Palleon is possibly the first POV character ever introduced in the Star Wars novels that wasn't featured in the films. He's the first Imperial POV character to ever appear in the novels aside from Darth Vader. He managed to be a recurring Imperial character all the way through to at least the Yuuzhan Vong novels. He is the first time we ever see an Imperial character who isn't "cackling madman evil" and sadly remained one of the few to maintain that status throughout the EU, to my knowledge.
While Rebels is the current trending Star Wars, if I were FFG and knew that much of the success for the Star Wars license is owed to Thrawn and Palleon, I'd make a push to get both featured in the game as a pair of classic heroes that are closely linked in the minds of older fans. If new characters have been added to Thrawn's story, they can be added in future expansions.
The deal kind of is though - thatbin current canon, Oaellon has been completely replaced.
Commander Faro seems to be NewPaellon as much as that can exist... Captain of the Chimaera .
And I have been told (but cannot independently verify) that the role of “competent commander at Endor who rallied” was also overwritten by someone else.
We may just... have to see how Faro develops... The next Thrawn book is due in June/July I believe, and that should have insights.
I mean, I guess it matters as much as what happens to Thrawn.
There is room for Paellon to come back ans be these s underling - but in the Aftermath era, there’s really no room for anything more than that.
So the question becomes - what is better:
A name drop with no capacity to be anything it once was, potentially diluting the legacy...
or
Maintaining the Legend in full - As a Legend.
I admit, I’m more for the second than the first, but that is certainly personal.
Edited by DrasnightaI don't really see them reaching for a character from the Original EU if they have an option in the current stuff. I do tend to think though that they won't be reaching into TFA and TLJ for Armada without first doing some like happened in X-wing with the second core set. They'll pick through the New Canon EU stuff set well before TFA first I'd think.
X-wing at this point is a full on mashup. I think they'll be a bit more restrained with Armada.
Zahn was able to get Parck into Thrawn .
Maybe we'll see Pellaeon in the next one.
Relax guys, we're going to have new star wars stuff for the next thousand years.

That being said, I feel that Parcks inclusion is a strike against it...
Since he fit into a very similar position - discoverer/recruiter.
but when presented with the opportunity for the 2nd position - we got Faro instead of Paellon.
But as stated - there’s still s lot to come, and as we are not Zahn, we won’t know until later ?
In old canon Pellaeon didn't meet Thrawn until post-Endor, right?
I seem to remember reading an interview with Zahn somewhere where he said he was trying to write it to be seamless with both new canon and old canon.
Which would preclude Pellaeon.

I believe he was in the fleet at the battle of endor and watched it fall apart after the emp fell. he talks about how the imps vastly outnumbered the rebels and it should have been a clean sweep even with the lost of the DS2 but the will of the imps broke and it caused them to route. As such, yes, i don't believe he met Thrawn before that battle.
