Hi all.
I'm thinking about buying the Lucrehulk Droid Control Ship to complete my Separatist fleet, but I'm thinking about the two parts one as those $50 less are really much also taking into account how much of customs taxes I have to pay here.
Does anyone have experience buying a two parts ship to see if they look well once glued and with what did you glue it?
Thanks in advance
Does anyone have experience with Mel's models in two parts?
I personally don't. But I can give you some tips that I've learned from other kits.
1. Always dry fit before glueing. This one's real simple and it dose a couple of things for you. First let's you see if all parts fit as intended, as well as checking for warping. Secondly it allows you to get a feel for the best spots to glue.
2. Choose your super glue wisely. If it's a sure thing, go for the testor's. I find the gel super glue works best for me especially on tricky assemblies. Choose something that balances hold and setting time for the project. Too fast and you may skew the model, too slow and you'll run the risk of it slightly separating if your hands get tired. The glues I would recommend for you is the locktight gels they are my general go to. You may consider testor's Wich will provide and excellent bond but is tricky for first time model builders (seeing as it fuses the plastic together making adjustments hard or a break and re glue next to impossible).
3. Hobby knife, file, and a sharp pair of snips(jewelery snips are very good at this). This will allow you to remove sprues, seems, and the like as well as giving you the capacity to trim areas that may not fit Right.
4. Green stuff (or the equivalent). This will help you cover seams from the joining areas. You can also use glue. It will need a light sand to match the adjacent area nicely.
That's my 2 cents I know there are better guys on this out there so take what I say with a grain of salt.
I have a 2-part resurgent that I have just washed.
My experience is that although the model is great, I now know what is written on top of hells front door: (nothing to do with abandoning hope or something like that)
"Some parts may require assembly"

I forgot about washing. That's important to some chemicals on moldels inhibit the glues setting up. So warm dish soapy wash isn't a bad idea either. BUT, that may not always be the case. It's best on one off kits you don't get often to wash, but if you get many it may be worth checking out if the releasing agents on the model don't inhibit the glues cureing process (save alot of time in washing if it doesn't)
Also if the super glue isn't setting fast enough try a little water. Super glue is activated by water and cures with moisture.

D***, I didn't know that. Explains why the s*** gets so hard when you try to wash it off of your fingers.

as it was WSF, washing was mandatory. WSF let the model keep a lot of powder residue from printing, which agglomerate with your prime and prevent it from sticking to the model. If you brush your model afterwards, not only is your paint prevented from sticking, but you strip a good part of your prime...
The problem with this model is that assembly will need some hours of kit building that I'll like not to loose![]()
too bad for me

Yup, that's why when the air is real dry the glue takes longer to cure. Sometimes just breathing on the model will help the glue set faster, seeing as how I am a very moist person this may be anticdotal. Also I theroize that the chems that repel water seriously hinder the curing time. Of course I'm no chemist, so again anicdotal .
@Lemmiwinks86 is any if this helpful? @Megatronrex is there anybody else around that you can think of that could help?

Yes, I've found some good advices here to try out, thanks all ![]()
Hope there is a discount soon on Shapeways, I really have a whim on that ship and it will give more choices for my Separatist fleet
