More.
its grown tnto a game with legitimate tough build choices.
The Core set, and even Wave One didn’t provide more than one or two archetypes, it felt like - and so far, choice has still been free - it’s hard to find something truly bad (only easy to give up early ?)
Edited by DrasnightaHappy friday!
Yes indeed. Loving the game and hiw it has developed and excited about the future.
I can honestly say I like it more. The game is fun to play, and it has a lot to think about both in and out of game. Top that off with a great community, and it has easily climbed to my favorite game.
Disclaimer: I started playing October 2017, so what do I know.
Happy Friday!!!
Honestly, I'm not very interested in the game right now. Maybe it's just a combination of work and life making it tough to just play. Also am enjoying the recent streak of playing X Wing with the locals two or three times a month and painting and playing Zombicide Black Plague with my good friends.
I hope to get back into it for regionals. And I have people locally that want to play suddenly. So one way or another, even if it takes new plastic, I do hope to fall back in love with it in 2018.
Otherwise that's a lot of money collecting dust.
Happy Friday!
I like it more then when I started. The complexity is fantastic and the balance is spot on right now. Ready for new plastic!
Happy Friday!! And definitely more than ever, especially now with wave 7
I love it more than ever, but meanwhile I have far less opportunity to play it than before
I started playing when Wave I dropped and 've been excited ever since. WHAT A GAME!
I love it more than when I started two years ago. I stroled in to my FLGS one day with my gf and saw it being played on the table. After talking to the players, one handed me the learn to play booklet and offered to set up a game the next for us. Armada became the space battles I wanted when Battlefront came out. I love the game, the community, and my FLGS!
This is how I learned about the game back then. And I agree. "I've gotta say that Armada is the game that I have ALWAYS wanted for Star Wars..." (6:00)
Edited by JadinEDIt's grown to be quite a solid, varied game where creating your fleet is fun, playing your fleet is fun and even getting your rear hull zone wooped is fun.
My only gripe (if you can actually call it a gripe) is that I once I get my hands of wave 7 I'll have every single ship I care about from the original trilogy, save the executor and its own thread of speculation... So I'm not as excited for the future, I guess?
Here's the Ricefrisbeetreat Brand ™ complain about stuff he likes:
I bought in on day 1 of the game's release, just like I did with X-Wing. I played a few games and I wasn't 100% sure I was happy with the game. Back then, we played just the core set so the game felt far from balanced.
As time went on and we all got better as players, things that felt "broken" seemed much easier to fight and strategies that were available since the game started were now considered the OP lists.
Each wave developed the game and very rarely did it feel like a new release was just a power-up of an older release. New strategies were coming out each day and you could go to the tables to see nearly every ship on the table. If someone really liked a certain ship, there was a way to make it work.
By wave 5, the game really hit its stride. I was playing the most at this time and my energy for the game was at an all-time high. But sadly, the warts of Rieeken started to show even locally.
Wave 6 came out and it seems to have gone over poorly. Yes, a few upgrades got used, but the ships didn't excite people like previous releases. I have encountered 1 Quasar and I'm the only one who tried using the Hammerheads.
As Wave 7 is at the printer/on the boat/stealth released?, my energy has dipped from the Wave 5 high. My group seems rather energetic about Legion, but I'm trying to finally give up some of my gaming ephemera. Ultimately, where the group goes, the games follow. If I want to stay with the group, I will also be playing Legion and I'm not 100% sure I'm interested. These new ships (Chimaera and Mc75) are some of the last GCW ships I know of and I'm not particularly interested in owning a bunch of Clone Wars or Sequel ships. Finding out that wave 8 is a Separatist Ball ship and a First Order star destroyer might be my first official pass for Armada.
So for me, my enjoyment of Armada is a bell curve. Low interest, peaked at Wave 5-ish, and has been in a decline since. I'm still optimistic. Armada is a quality game (much better than X-Wing, for instance) and I want to see it supported for a long time.
More far more. I did not necessarily enjoy the initial out of the box game and wave one but after wave two my love of the game has only grown.
I agree with
@Drasnighta
Every wave has increased my enjoyment of this game. I started during wave one. I remember being so excited to have an ISD I could play when wave 2 released. Now, some 2 1/2 years later, the
Chimera
, my favorite old EU ship and Thrawn, my favorite old EU commander, (even if they're more based on the new canon version of Thrawn) are about to be released. I'm absolutely STOKED going forward.
I love Armada so much I spent a small part of my Christmas bonus to buy an ISD
JUST
to Sit on my computer tower at work.
(That the owner just came in and complimented... lol)
Happy Friday, all!
I'm enjoying Armada. But I am always nervous before a new wave comes out. I worry that maybe this wave will be the one that slides into craziness like STAW and X-Wing have done before.
But I'm loving the game in its current state and just maybe FFG has learned from other games about power creep. Hope springs eternal!
I've been playing for about two years now and I'm enjoying it more than ever. Each wave not only adds new ships to try but also opens up possibilities with the older ships. I think FFG has done an excellent job of keeping things balanced so far and hope they continue this way in the future.

This, this exactly. I used to be hardcore X-Wing guy, but man did they go overboard fast. Armada is still my favorite game, it's held that distinction since Wave 2. I hope they can continue to keep it interesting without breaking it.

I think the absolute turd that was wave 6 definitely contributed to my lack of interest. It is hard to keep interest when you're using the same components from over a year ago (amongst other things).

It's strange how much metas differ from location to location. The Quasars were HUGE locally... I think there's at least 3 players who actively field one or more in almost every fleet.... Hammerheads even did well, 2 of our guys love running em. One in particular actually seems to be marginally successful with 'em lol
I wonder what contributes to these differences? Are people from different areas prone to different tastes in playstyle?
lol
I love Armada, it keeps my interest and my wife's disdain, but then again, when I get into something I typically get into it hard core. I struggle being a casual anything fan.
That said, I have come to disparage Rieekan Aces, and it has been a bit of a spoiler for me of late, as the fleets I LOVE to play are 100% hard countered by it, and now that it is common knowledge that Rieekan Aces is as close to Armada comes to being the min/max best fleet around I can't get away from it.
I am hoping and PRAYING that wave 7 has a definitive answer for this, and/or that further erratas are coming to interfere with it. I wouldn't mind seeing it hit so hard that the whole 2+3 archetype subset becomes almost unplayable.

I would mind. I don't mind it being more easily handled (WAB?) or wave 7 having counters for it/making it more difficult to play well, but making something unplayable because it's really good if you invest the time it takes to get good with it isn't a good plan IMO.

From experience, it comes down to the top skill players in a group that end up molding the players in an area. If the best player is running a squadron heavy fleet, I'd expect the other players will either try to emulate or counter that fleet. If you were to net list a tournament winning fleet, you might perform slightly better, based on the ease of the list to play, but overall, it might have a weakness to the meta already in the area.

Now that you mention it... yeah that makes sense.
