Happy New Year

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

Well Happy Friday and Such.

So with the new year what do you think will happen with the game?

Do you like X-wing more or less then when you started to play?

Gosh, I really don't know.

A few months ago, I went to my FLGS for the first time and saw a wall of X Wing ships that immediately grabbed my attention. When I got home I searched "Star Wars ship game" and came across two things: the Wookipedia article on all of the expansions and the pictures of the Legends ships in the game.

That sense of wonder isn't really there anymore. I feel less like the kid in a candy store and more like a ruthless tactician, always strategizing for the next game.

Although I still get a kick out of putting red on every tiny panel I can find! https://i.imgur.com/kTGLk3o.jpg

I have to say more. Going from the starter box with three ships to wave 12/13 is a quantum leap! More of everything! More ship's, more upgrades of all kinds and more crew! What's not to love? Oh, yeah the writing sometimes.

That one hiccup aside, with just a handful of other games, this has been the de facto game for Wednesday night for the last three years. Every game is different though the rules are basically the same. Not bad for a game that I discovered accidentally!

Happy New Year, CB!

Happy First Friday!!

More. A lot more.

I got in just after Wave 3, so all the OT stuff was on the market, and the only "what is this" ship was the HWK. Most everything was still balanced against each other, but missiles, torps and bombs sucked. With Wave 4, there was an anticipation of crazy new ships, and then the fun of a 3rd faction. I loved seeing all the new bounty hunter ships, and capital ships!!

Then, the Dark Times. Now, I don't tourney, so Phantoms, Fat Han, Triple Toilet Seats, Manaroo, and Attanni never hit me hard. BUT, the game that I excitedly dropped my 4 new Fang Fighters down and mopped my brother's *** one night was a moment of terror. And not just for my brother, who lost what should have been a 3 hour game in one, but for me thinking "What have they done?? This game is ruined with power creep!!"

Happily, I no longer feel that way. The great nerfing and ongoing buffs have made everything a lot more level. My brother loves bombs, I love missiles. He routinely flies B-wings, and if I Rebel, I routinely fly X-Wings. The game still has some hiccups, but we sorta avoid meta trash, so we don't really afflict ourselves with the game's issues. Which means, for us, the game has more variety, options, ships, and opportunities to explore than ever before.

I'm sad the Squint is weak, but I have grown the be attached to the TAP and the Defender thanks to Rebels. I think the Silencer will become a new favorite, but I haven't had a chance to table one yet.

Hard to say, though it's only been a year. I was heavily addicted at first play and the addiction has only grown. Celestial Lizards (I keep wanting to write, Wizards) captured it.
