I think this decision has to do a lot with how you want to fly that last ship. Is it going to be in formation with the rest of your list for easier focus fire or are you planning on spreading out for flanks and harder attack priority?

Both ships are essentially 4 defence dice at range 3, with a high pilot skill and missiles. The respective advantages:

  • Viktor Hel
    • unappealing target by inflecting stress on an attacker
    • rolls 3 defence dice at range 2 or less (but to be frank, likely to lose it when shot at as he has no evade token, autothrusters or defensive rerolls)
    • has a potential 'reload' for his missile or stealth device (but probably not both)
  • Talonbane
    • Has an "I win" PS of 11, which allows him to compete with the Quickdraws, Darth Vaders and Captain Nyms
    • Has shield regeneration which allows him to 'slow roll' in at long range if damaged, and can avoid the downsides at close quarters (once, anyway)
    • Delivers a Fenn Rau esque 5 dice range 1 attack

Personally, I'd vote for Talonbane on the following grounds:

  • If you come up against an imperial missile-based alpha strike squad, you can expect 3 missiles flung downrange at PS10 or 11; if they go for the Khiraxz Viktor Hel may stress one of them but then he's going to explode before he gets to fire. Talonbane should at least manage to damage and harpoon one of them before he dies.
  • You've only got one missile carrier - if you come up against a Veteran Instincts/Black One Poe Dameron, you're likely to see him shed your target lock after you acquire it but before you fire, every single turn.
  • After the missiles are expended, Talonbane can mix it up in close - he has the PS to use his barrel roll to avoid PS9 and PS10 targets (like Torani Kulda's bullseye arc or Fenn Rau's range 1 arc-of-egregious-death) and the shield regeneration to survive better in that environment than the green-dice-dependent Hel, making him a better support for the Starvipers who'll also want to be knife-fighting.
  • Whilst you can get a second missile out of Viktor, you won't get it until someone dies at range 2.
    • He doesn't want to be at range 2 of the enemy (he wants to be lurking at the back where he gets his 4th defence dice and continues to hand out stress even if hit)
    • Your other two ships probably want to be in close, so they may not be at range 2 of him
    • It's unlikely he'll get to harpoon a target then fire another missile at it to set it off with a guidance chips auto-critical unless:
      • You harpoon a target and then kill a non-harpooned target (splitting is generally bad)
      • One of your starvipers gets killed early on (also generally a bad thing)

I would also vote Talonbane. I like him with PTL, but these days, VI is likely stronger.

However, I still don't get why people like Intensity on Guri!

Any pilot with free tokens can make reasonable use of Intensity. With Guri, it dovetails with her nifty bank-template barrel rolls. It's the kind of thing I'm a little skeptical about, since I don't know whether her free token will be reliable enough at her low-ish PS 5, but I was skeptical about Intensity on an /x7 Defender until seeing them and playing them on the table. It seems totally plausible that it feels a lot better on table than I'd think.
