Pick a ship for an Inquisitor

By tabrumj, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

My PC's have recently attracted the attention of a an Imperial Inquisitor who is a very skilled pilot (a foil for Jedi Starfighter Ace). I know that she will pilot her own ship, and will be accompanied by two other Fighter pilots. What I don't know is what ship the Inquisitor will have. I think I want it to be something in the Silhouette 3-5 range, so a particularly nasty Fighter or Freighter of some sort. So I am asking for suggestions on what might be appropriately sinister. What do people suggest? The two escort pilots will probably fly Tie Defenders.

I am running a high Powered (200 XP) game that is a mix of Edge and Force and destiny (2 Force users, 2 Non) set shortly after the Battle of Yavin. The PC's fly a VT-49 Decimator, and have a good mix of skills to use it to best effect. What I don't want is to mirror them too closely, so the enemy using a Decimator is off the table.

HWK-1000 seriously its the exact opposite of a Decimator, very fast extremely maneuverable and has the hard points to mount what ever you desire.

I'd say go with something like a TIE Defender. Utilize the Squadron rules to attach some meatshields proper accompaniment. Make use of actual tactical development instead of just lobbing the Inquisitor at them like a man-grenade. It's all fun and games when you can just fly right in. It's less fun when you realize the Defenders were bait and there's now two groups of Xg-1s sitting on the flanks launching a missile at you every turn.

I'd suggest one of the specialised TIE fighters in "Stay on Target", perhaps the TIE Hunter or Phantom if you really want an Imperial's Imperial. If you after more of a freelance Inquisitor (not so engaged with the Imperial brass), I'd move on towards one of the ships in "No Disintegrations" as they tend to be rather powerful, perhaps an Aggressor Assault Fighter, Firespray or Lancer-class Pursuit Ship.

What about a ship type and crew usually associated with the good guys in Star Wars. Some kind of Mon Calamari design, or a Wookiee ship that looks a bit like those insect-winged flying boats from Revenge of the Sith. Complete with alien slave crew to make it that much more evil, and a harder decision for the PCs to just blow it out of the sky when they have the chance.

Do we have Tie Striker or whatever that monstrosity Ren flies is? Maybe a tricked out Interceptor? I'd suggest not hesitating to take a premade ship and pimping it out a bit, I did this in my game with a Raider corvette (because it looks cool).

go for the aggressor assault fighter, it's pretty awesome for the OP's purpose. only 20 enc though.

Lots of great things to choose from, but narrowing your choices by the Inquisitor's tactical choices would be helpful. To wit: short of a corvette, there's not much in the Silhouette 3-5 range that can go toe-to-toe with a Decimator and survive. Your Inquisitor's going to need to rely on superior speed, maneuverability, and maybe some non-standard modifications to maintain an edge. Personally, I like:

  • Kappa-class shuttle: pretty similar to the Decimator, but one more hard point
  • Krayt gunship: 2-being crew, slightly faster & better handling than the Decimator, HT & ST compare favorably
  • Aggressor assault fighter: as Elias mentioned, a solid choice. Good HT & ST, substantially faster than the Decimator, slightly less Armor & Defense
  • Mandalorian Protectorate starfighter: the opposite of a Decimator; small, fragile, but incredibly nimble and wicked fast. Would definitely require ablative minions
  • HWK-1000: as Decorus mentioned, this is also the opposite of a Decimator, but has much more in the way of HP for custom load-outs vs. the Fang Fighter. Hard to imagine more than one in the battlespace at a time; mixed squadrons might be a bookkeeping nuisance
  • GAT-12 Skipray Blastboat: my personal favorite, comparable stats to the Decimator, slightly lighter defenses with better speed and maneuverability. Might have a slight edge in stock weaponry, but does require a sizable crew

Check out some of the ships from here .

X wing. It's the last thing their expecting!
