Console Fire Question

By Cloud177, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So i've googled quite a bit looking for this, but it seems no one has asked this question. I got a console fire critical card. It's says,

  • At the start of each combat phase, roll 1 attack die. On a Hit result, suffer 1 damage.

Question: Does a Crit result count as a Hit result? If so do I just take a damage as the card states or do I take a crit card?

Critical Hit does not count on Console Fire.

Try looking at the card instead of asking Google. The card has a hit icon on it. Compare to other damage cards that have both hit and critical hit icons in their text, such as Weapons Failure.

Do what the card says. Don't do what the card does not say.

A hit result is not the same as a critical result, and inversely, a critical result is not the same as a hit result. When a card shows a particular type of result, then it's only that result that counts.

When referring to hits or crits, the card typically show the specific icons that are required.

I'd just like to second this part. The answer is obvious for veterans but a perfectly reasonable question for a new player.

Hah! Welcome to the forums btw!

...groan....

Ok so i'd like to say that I am a veteran of x wing and i'm not new. I was under the assumption that a critical "hit" still counts as a "hit" and I would just suffer one damage instead of taking a critical. I also understand that it could be ruled out by technicality of the symbol I just wasn't sure, and it seemed a bit unbalanced. Thanks to those who had serious answers, I appreciate your time. The snarky one's were definitely unwanted however :/

There's one thing that you should never do with this game, and that's assume anything. Assumption leads to the Dark Side, young padawan.

The icons used in the game are very literal and if what you rolled is not exactly the same as the one mentioned on a card's text, then it's not that result.

I've always liked this feature of Console Fire... it makes me feel like I somehow dodged a wookiee bowcaster bolt, when that critical result pops up. "Woo, not a hit, I'm good!"

Yeah when a card has a symbol on it, not text (doesn't SAY hit, has the symbol for the hit on the dice) then you follow the symbol exactly.

And this is why we say do as the rule say, not as you think they do, or read the card. The game never say Critical Hit, the rule say Critical Damage or Critical Result. It also say Hit only in reference to to is the attack a hit or not. We on the forum for lack of "Symbol", we use CRITICAL or HIT. When you take a look at the rules, you see that they nearly always reference the symbol.

It is not ruled out by a technicality, it is the rule. You added an assumption based of false information CRITICAL using the hit word when it is not the case.
