**IF** I Were to Buy an Epic Ship, Which One Should I Get?

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

So, I want to say right off the bat that it's against my religion to buy epic ships. I decided when I first got into this game that buying stuff for Imperial Assault AND X-Wing meant I could really buy epic ships too.

Well, I'm thinking of backsliding.

After all, I don't really buy Imperial Assault any more. The last set of expansion lay dusty and unopened on my shelf, because setup time is a pain in the butt.

Soooooo..... if I were to get an epic ship, which one?

I want:

1) A ship that doesn't suck.

2) Has good upgrades with it.

3) Has a fun campaign or some kind of different play style or mission with it.

Halp, I know nothing about epic.

Gozanti.

Answers all of your questions: it doesn't suck; it has the essential 'fix' upgrades for all the huge ships; it has an excellent mini-campaign for either Rebels or Imperials to play.

If you fly Imps, get the Raider. It improves the Tie Advanced. For Rebels, get the GR-75. Droids and an extra X-wing. The C-DOC definitely if you like Scum.

On the other hand, if you have a bad case of OCD or CDO if it's really bad, resign yourself to get them all. Like I did. All come with decent missions and with the exception of the Tantive, come with an extra fighter. The Gozanti comes with a pair of Ties. Not too shabby.

All of this you probably know so it depends on what you like. Epic games are a good break from the standard 100/6 routine. For a real treat try a team game. Four to six players, 600 points. Set up like a strike force. One player running fighters and bombers and one the capital ship(s). Make sure the players make their builds before hand or you're looking at a lot of wasted time. We used a 6 x 6 map to allow room for maneuvering.

Do you play scum? And do you / your friends own two mats between you?

if so, c-roc has an awesome campaign in it. C-roc also has the fix cards for epic ships like Gozanti does.

othwrwise, go Gozanti.

What @Gilarius said. Also the Imperial Assault Carrier is in 1/270 scale, so it matches the rest of your models, and it can be used to store TIEs. And you get Wampa and Agent Kallus, and being a cheap points cost ship it's perfectly usable in 100-150-200 point mini-Epic games.

Failing that, the Rebel transport. For the X-Wing pilots, EPT droid and Stressbot.

It also has the three best EPTs in the game! Marksmanship, Expert Handling, and (wait for it) EXPOSE! :-)

Seriously though, probably the biggest thing I'd want is a mini-campaign, so this one does sound good.

I remember these days. Ah yes. I wanted the astromechs that came with the rebel transport but was certain I would never play epic. My small gaming group would never play epic. So I bought the rebel transport, removed everything non-transport e. g. Jek, upgrades, astromechs, and then sold the transport online for $15.

That was two years ago. I now own one of each (two transport x-wings). And the Tantive IV arrives Friday!! C-3PO!!

I was once an X-wing Knight the same as your father. Pass on what you have learned!

Part of me says Raider for the TIE Advanced fix, but just proxy or borrow copies for tournaments.

I might put in a bid for the GR-75 Rebel Transport. The model is unexpectedly beautiful. More than any bulk hauler ought to be. Plus, it just works... different. I guess Coordinate is in the regular game, but one of the most busted feeling experiences I had was flying a standard 58pt Kyle Super-Dash with a GR-75 in a 100 point game.

Haven't personally done any of the campaigns.

For usefulness, the Gozanti (or Gesundheit as I call it) is amazing.

For sheer fun, get a Raider and proxy Ordnance Tubes.

After you've done this, 100 points will seem like 2 prepubescent boys throwing sissy punches and pulling hair in the alley behind the school. ?

Hmmm...his and hers Gozanti variants, maybe?

Valentine's day is just around the corner.

As the champion of quirky Scum ships (Scyks &Hwk290s especially) I will say to go with the C-ROC!

The pilots for the Scyk (Especially Quinn Jast & Sunny Bounder) are a lot of fun for relatively cheap, and then you can do something silly on the C-ROC, such as putting both Maul & Zuckuss on it.

Gozanti is the best value for money epic ship, has a fun campaign and comes with dome good cards.

Might have to make this my signature line!

I love the GR-75 and its campaign, which, like the Gonzanti campaign, can be played on a standard size area, huge upside for me, means I can play it at home. The Gonzanti has the better epic related upgrades and is a more straight forward ship, but its standard upgrades aren't as good and I didn't like the campaign much.

I am all in on the Gozanti Bandwagon and want to add to the Gozanti pros:

- looks great with the other models cause its in scale
- fits into a 100P list (yes it is still not eligible for the Standard game but if you mainly play at a gamestore where most people come with 100P lists you will find people who like to play against your 100P-mini-epic List.) - this makes the Gozanti the one and only epic ship I do play regulary.

The thing I like about the C-ROC campaign is that it’s highly flavorful (taking a side with rebels or imps) and the special rules don’t take a lot of extra learning. I also really like that as a side effect of allying with a faction over another, you end up with ships from all 3 factions on the mat.

That said, the c-roc can’t carry ships like Gozanti can. However it is also on the 1/270 scale.

I consider the Rebel Transport the most essential purchase, as the astromechs unlock so many great Rebel builds. You can pick it up cheap in a lot of places and you'll actually get a ton of value from it.

Depending on what are you looking for. I would say, either the Gozanti or the Rebel Transport. Both are beautiful models, come with their own mini-campaign, come with fighter model repaint(s), pilot cards that are great, and other upgrades (like astromechs) which are very useful for everything else.

The Gozanti is comparatively cheap in both real money as in points, is amazingly versatile for both punchy and janky lists, brings a ton of upgrades for each mode of play and gives you two more TiEs for your standard play with nice pilots. It's also just great that you can actually dangle your Fighters from the bottom of it.

Judging by looks alone, though- nothing beats a Raider-class Corvette.

It’s also a pretty awesome epic ship. Cheap (points wise) and can do a ton of stuff (except shoot) like rams, jams, coordinate, etc.

I love the upgrades in this one. Does it have a campaign that comes with it? About how much time do the missions take? If there is no other epic ship on the mat does this one hold its own okay?

I started with the CR-90 and the Raider, then added the Rebel transport later; haven't gotten the Gozanti or C-ROC, though the Gozanti will definitely be added at some point. That said, I'd start with the Raider or the transport, both because they offer good introductions to epic play with their campaigns and because the packs include stuff that you will find useful outside of epic play, such as the aforementioned droids, pilots and of course the TIE advanced "fix". (I say "fix" in quotes mostly because I enjoyed using Vader plenty before the fix was released, and thematically I was long of the understanding that Vader's was the only one of its design. I was used to referring to it as Vader's TIE instead of the TIE advanced for a long time...)

The rebel transport supplies key pilots and Astromechs for the humble t-65, comes with a cool campaign and the best looking epic ship after my second choice,

the Corvette. The only other epic ship to so far appear in the (proper) films, looks amazing and comes with a passable campaign.
