What is your favourite faction and why?

By Jiron, in X-Wing

I'm Alexsandr Kallus.

Not sure if that's before he defects or after, but Rebels/Empire.

I like some of the Scum characters (Zuckuss & 4-LOM!), but the ships mostly haven't done it for me in the game. I don't hate Scum, it just comes 3rd.

Scum. When I first got into the game (wave 3) I knew boba fett was available and called bounty hunters as my faction. I was most disappointed to find out that he belonged to imperials and that there was no bounty hunter faction.

You can imagine my delight when wave 6 was announced.

Imperial

My favorite faction is small based, arc locked ships flown in groups, then Huge ships and distant last is turrets/bomb ships.

It has nothing to do with meta and everything to do with my fascination with dog fighting. Always enjoyed learning about historical air battles and their aces and Star Wars so this game gives me both at once.

I own and fly a fairly even mix of the 3 factions including most large bases though I rarely fly them. I love flying 4-5 ship lists with matching pairs of ships.

Favorite individual ships include A's, M3-A and Tie Bomber (without bombs).

I have always loved the Empire and do consider them the good guys as they finally bring peace to the Galaxy hahaha. Plus their ships are so awesome! Swarm of TIEs, beautiful angled defenders/Interceptors, majestic bombers and Shuttles, every single ship a work of art. While the Rebels stole half of their ships and got fish people to vomit up the rest. Don't even get me started on the cheapness and gimmicky-ness that is the hideous scum faction. Huge pass on anything that they have.

Only twist is while I really enjoy Empire, my wife and closest friends up here that play X-wing all play Empire. So to keep things fresh-looking on the table I nobely volunteered to buy and play as the Rebels. To become their leader, luring the Rebels to my banner until I one day turn and crush them!

Alright TLDR?

I play Rebels because no one else wants to but they don't want to keep playing Imperial versus Imperial. Plus video game turreted ships like Outrider, Falcon, Moldy Crow and Ghost all have a special place in my heart haha.

I like most ships and play all 3 factions. However, in 100pt I have mainly flown Rebels - principally the basic X-wing - with an occasional foray into Scum (5 cartel marauders or 7 ship swarm) and Imperial Decimator plus one. Now the Gunboat is available, I shall be flying them for a while.

In epic I like Interceptors, my Raiders and Gozantis, and CR90s best.

Started off preferring Empire, dabbled a little in Scum but I think my real home is in the Alliance to restore the Republic. Just because I love X-wings.

While I enjoy playing all three factions, my favorite has to be Scum due to Mandalorians, tricky HWKs, and not lumping bounty hunters in with empire.

Imperial for so many reasons, style, beauty, challenge...

I'm an Empire man, through and through. I dig the stark colorations, sharp geometric lines of the ships, low cost, high agility/maneuverability, and dedicated craft for certain jobs (e.g. Interceptor, Interceptor, Bomber, Striker, and Fighter (Line), Defender) all really have their job and do it efficiently and are tailored for the task). I enjoy the Advanced, and the /sf, but they don't necessarily match this descriptor since they're better all-around dogfighters, but they well in their place. I also think the big ships for Imperial are well-suited for the faction.

I also don't mind flying at a "disadvantage" because it makes me fly better than my opponents. If I don't, I'm able to look at a lost game and see where I went wrong or even what I did well or even just chalk a few up to dice variance. I don't like to complain about dice variance, but if you run Soontir and blank out on 5 green dice with one hull left, even with all the tokens, that's the dice against you.

I'm moving a bit more toward Rebellion since I'm playing Heroes of the Aturi Cluster, but have a difficult time making squads because of their higher price point. I probably won't play Scum, mostly because they just won't be the next ships on my list once I've gotten all the Imperial ships I want.

My favorite is the Resistance. All of their ships are fun and balanced, and none of their ships are completely NPE or DOA. They're just the most balanced and fair faction. The First Order are a close second.

Although I have to admit the Empire have by far the coolest ships.

Aliens. I already see humans of all shapes and sizes every day. I don't want to fly into space and see another human.

At the moment? Rebel because of FAA. Yesterday? Imperials because the Gunboat is too much fun to fly. Scum hasn't been in the mix for a while, I really don't like their strong ships and their weak ships just aren't fun enough to bother.

Imperial.

I like the challenging playstyle, I like the excitement of living on your green dice, I like that it's mostly primary arc ships with repositioning. But it goes back further than that, because I picked the game up knowing I wanted to fly TIE Interceptors, and I used to play Imperial back in the old West End Games equivalent of X-Wing.

I used to play the Germans in WWII miniatures battles too.

I agree with this statement. I know many don't (naming no names @ficklegreendice), but defence dice rolls are half the fun of the game for me; is luck on your side or will you blank out at the worst possible moment?

It's why I never bought a Decimator, why I rarely play with the low defence dice/high health ships. Mitigation is dull, attrition is dull. And besides, if you play the game rght you shouldn't need to rely on those green dice rolls anyway.

Fully agree. Tried to play low agility ships but it never worked out for me.

Imperial thanks to Tie Fighter video game (its also what got me into the game in the first place). The best part of the game is the outthinking in the maneuvers, and no one does that better than empire. Granted, those green dice gods have been angry that ive been playing with my arc 170s lately...

Speaking of which, what ever happened to your series? Still waiting for the FO Test Pilot/Sienar Analyst, Tomax Bren, and all the Gunboat pilots.

Nooo! The decimator is superb. Arc-dodging, evade token/dice, or ramming for glory depending on which pilot you use makes it one of the best ships around.

Plus, when you are a rubbish pilot (cough like me cough), it's good to have a ship that lasts more than one turn.

When (if?) I can steer my ships better, I might change my mind...

It's a really close call, since I find aspects in all the factions that I like, lore wise and on the table.

But in the end, it is scum. Space pirates, riches, all the forbidden toys, drugs... I'm just waiting to be able to field Hondo Ohnaka - such a decent fellow.

I too stand in the ranks of those who love to play with the Galactic Empire. I love the uniform look of the squads; usually I'll run a central "leader" that may be a different craft than the wingmen, but depending on squad size, like to have at least two matching wingmen to go with the leader, and TIEs of all sorts look awesome in groups.

I also enjoy the nuance of flying a squad of ships which rely solely on good maneuvers to perform well in combat; no turrets, no regen, no shields, no illicit mods. (Okay, technically we have a turret on the Decimator and can mount one to the Aggressor, but I favor my TIEs, be they Imperial or First Order...)

My present fascination is with the First Order sub-faction, but that's because I'm enjoying the (admittedly far behind) Special Forces centerpiece with TIE/fo support. (I really should get a Silencer to add to the build options, shouldn't I?)

Rebels. Because . . . one straight to victory, man.

Honestly, if I could, I'd tell you that my favorite faction is four-ship lists (and no, I don't mean four toxic pieces of **** that chug around the edge of the board all game just trying not to take damage), and Rebels just happen to be the best at that. Mostly because they have one straights. That part is very important.

The Empire all the way... all I ever fly is TIE swarm... I have a problem.

The Rebel Alliance baby!!

I fight for freedom, free thinking and democracy. Who would ever think that fighting for the Germans....I mean Galactic Empire could be a good thing? With their use of fear, power and mass murder to make people submit to their fascist regime.
