Clearing doom off of Agenda when advancing Act

By mjbris, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Hi all,

Long story short, my play group heard a ruling on a podcast or video to the effect that when you advance the Act (yay!) you also clear doom off the Agenda. We've always kept the Agenda accumulating doom, but also want to play correctly. The rub is that we can't find the rules clarification, ruling, or the rules in the rules reference to confirm. Can anyone here straighten us out?

Thanks!

That podcast is wrong. When the Act advances, all the Doom stays on the Agenda.

Which podcast, out of curiosity?

Yeah, that sounds like a pretty big error!

It is true that you clear all doom from the board when the agenda advances, which is a commonly overlooked rule. So they might have been saying that, and either they misspoke or OP misunderstood.

Oh no please say it wasn't us!!! (Incidentally in our 'become a better player' episode we did do a common mistakes section which talked about the agenda deck and clearing doom - I hope it's a confusion between act and agenda, rather than a podcast/youtuber getting the entire rule wrong!)

I wish, that would definitely make the game a LOT easier!

Thanks all. I'm not sure what video or cast it was from, but it didn't agree with my reading of the rules. We tried it once and it sucked a lot of tension from the game. May be it was a confusion between Act and Agenda, either way, we're on the right track now.

I haven't had the opportunity to play all the available scenarios yet, but make sure that it wasn't special scenario rules that would have the act advancing remove doom in play. While it is standard that the doom sticks around until the agenda advances, specific scenarios might bend or even break the rules.

Scenarios can indeed break the rules, but no scenario I know of clears the agenda when advancing the act.
