Elusiveness

By Muppetfluffer, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So im trying to get a list together for regionals in 3weeks. The Swedish meta has always been imperial heavy. So i expect alot of quickdraw, Kylo, Vader, alphas and a few defenders.

Elusivness keeps popping up in my head. Rerolling those ISYTDS and Harpooncrits seems nice in theory.

So I ended up with Elusiveness Ryad in my head.

With the icreasing numbers of Blackone titles out there, Vessery is loosing value.

Elusiveness Ryad with 2 crackshot glaives seems valid or 2 ps4 silencers.

But Vader stole my heart!!!

I got:

3 defenders

2 silencers

2alphas

2 advanced

1 SF

1 agressor and loads of the other stuff.

So any suggestions on a list with E-Ryad? :)

Hmmm, one problem with elusiveness Ryad is her offense becomes weak, and opponents arent forced to attack her, so they can spend all game killing your other stuff. You want them to attack her cause she would be tough to kill, so you need other ships the enemy doesnt want to attack first like Kylo, Quickdraw, or a rebel captive ship. Tossing Elusiveness Ryad into a list with PS4 Silencers just invites the opponent to kill the 32-33pt silencers first. Same with Galives. If they cost as much as Ryad and dont have elusiveness, kill them first. Why bother with Ryad?

Countess Ryad (34) w/ Elusiveness (2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1), TIE/x7 (-2)

"Quickdraw" (29) w/ Veteran Instincts (1), Fire-Control System (2), Advanced Optics (2), Lightweight Frame (2), Special Ops Training (0)

Delta Squadron Pilot (30), TIE/x7 (-2)

Total: 99

This presents them with Quickdraw, who players usually try and avoid attacking, and a cheap Delta Defender that is tanky and considerably less cost than Ryad or Quickdraw.

or maybe:

Countess Ryad (34) w/ Elusiveness (2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1), TIE/x7 (-2)

Kylo Ren (TIE Silencer) (35) w/ Veteran Instincts (1), Fire-Control System (2), Advanced Optics (2), Autothrusters (2)

Nu Squadron Pilot (18) w/ "Mangler" Cannon (4), Long-Range Scanners (0), XG-1 Assault Configuration (1)

Total: 100

A PS11 Kylo that opponents dont like attacking cause of IWSYTD, especially with a mangler cannon out there. The gunboat is cheap and tanky so you dont mind the opponent going for it first, letting Kylo setup is FCS and go to work.

Brilliant thx :)

Tried

vader, Ryad, kurasabi today, worked good.

Kurasabi/wired/Harpoon was awsome.

slam/stress/wired or reload/stress/wired is like 1,5actions :)

Think ill try your Kylolist next, but swaping fcs to title.

If u hate ISYTDS use Determination.

Hate is a strong Word :P

Elusiveness helps vs harpoons and crits over all, thats why I am testning it.

Ryad shoots Kylo, gets Darkside.

Then she more or less locks up that skill thx to x7+elusiveness since its so hard to get crits in :)

thanks for sharing your thoughts on elusiveness, why not on Kylo?

Rho Squadron Veteran (21)
Lightning Reflexes (1)
Linked Battery (2)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Long-Range Scanners (0)
XG-1 Assault Configuration (1)

Kylo Ren (TIE Silencer) (35)
Elusiveness (2)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Advanced Optics (2)
Autothrusters (2)
First Order Vanguard (2)

"Omega Ace" (20)
Trick Shot (0)
Advanced Optics (2)

Juke x7 Ryad is my fav combo for the same points as E Ryad. Anyway, thanks for the inspiration, will try next week ??

Just remember with ISYTDS and kylo in his silencer; shooting him once with ryad to get it out does not lock it up. It'll jump to whatever ship hits him first each round, although the crit card won't change if it has one assigned to it. Focus fire is still the best option against any imperial ship, and taking out an opposing kylo or QD's shields early is absolutely worth a card or two.

That kinda makes sense. It's a choice targeting certain card effects, but might be generally weaker against the field. Elusiveness, say, gets you next to nothing against a TLT Miranda/Nym list.

I could even see a case for an Elusiveness Quickdraw. VI is probably generally the best for a missile QD, but if skipping a missile, an Elusiveness/FCS/Advanced Optics/LWF QD might be solid. However, is that better on QD than just getting an extra evade with Debris Gambit? Hrm. That'd suffer less damage but more crits, which can translate into more damage.

I'm just rambling now.

Elusiveness is a weak card. It was weak even back when it first came out (before power creep set in and gave us much more effective EPTs).

Taking a stress token to re-roll a single attack die is not good value. If the opponent does not have focus, then its 50/50 odds that the stress you took does nothing (because they just roll a hit/crit again), and if they have a focus token, then don't even bother! Its a 75% chance that elusiveness gives you stress for absolutely no benefit.

The ONLY reason to even consider Elusiveness is on a ship that gains some benefit from stress tokens. Rebels have a few of these (keyan, ibtisam, ezra), but imperials do not...

You would be MUCH better off just taking lone wolf or push the limit on Ryad if you want to make her more tanky. AND! These EPTs have the benefit of adding to your offensive output at the same time...

If a crit lands on there are 7doubledmg cards, then add majorexpmotion etc. Thats roughly 1 in 3 for 2dmg, those 2 dmg+1 for Harpoon is crucial on a 3hullship such as Ryad.

So rerolling that crit to a hit seems like a sweet deal in that specific scenario.

So in the Harpoonmeta elusivness should have some value somewhere :)

Specially since it says: Harpoon immunity (more or less)

But yea, elusivness doesnt do much 90-100% of the game.
