To my knowledge Runewars doesn't have infinite and minium ranged weaponry (atst mortar and veers command) .
It *may* lead to balance issues
Edited by RalgonUh... Armada requires 6x3
I'm starting with a 3x3 for my core set. I have a feeling that it may feel a little claustrophobic but I will expand in time.
I just want to see FFG produce some 6x3 mats, both space and terrain. I have not been able to find a sub $90 mat in the US for Armada.

I haven't had any issue using 2 3x3 maps that they make. Especially for the space mats, you can get a bit of variety that way.
I think legion will be more fun with a traditional wargame table, but in a pinch the grass mats for runewars should work great.
Edited by Wired4WarI have 3x3 mats for X-Wing, but I prefer one big mat. Some of the tables we use are 2 tables and sometimes the seam of the table makes the seams of the mat stick up. But I just really want an official size mat, I am just gonna have to drop the $90 for one or now two.
I have bought 1 x 3x3 desert map and 2 x 3x3 GRassland mats.
Will use the 3x3 initially for the core and then can add the 2nd grassland to the 1st for larger battles as things expand.
I'm making my own battle mats from canvas, caulk, and materials so I'm going 6'x4' just on the off chance we get an epic scale down the road, and to completely cover my table. I crunched the numbers and found that it was less expensive for me to make it myself than to buy. Here are 2 of the best resources I could find.
I bought 2 3x3 mats from a company called Front Line Gaming. The mats are very good quality but they are a little bit pricey. did have a problem with shipping but other than that its a good product I'm happy with my purchase.
I just made this:

F.A.T Mat -- $65 for 6x3, in woodland or space, plus a cool carrying case. Great product.
Have you seen Mats by Mars' ? They have them in 3x6s
Just received my 6x4 Badlands mat from FLG. I purposely went with this because I simply wanted more "ambiance" for the area where I'll be placing unit cards and the like.
However, after just reading the entirety of the main rule book, low and behold I found the "Grand Army" rules that use a 6x4. Guess i'm set.![]()
Oh, and I couldn't be happier with the product for my Tatooine setup, as it works PERFECTLY using Vallejo's Grey Sand paste + Seraphim Sepia for mini bases.

Armada and Runewars both play on 6'x3'
I made a board surface with felt glued down over mdf. Wasn’t too expensive and works great for everything - I can put two mats down for xwing epic, one mat down for standard xwing, or I can just place my terrain directly onto the felt and have my Legion space.
Get any of the 6x4 mats available from everywhere and just remember that the actual edge is range 1 from the long edges.
RWM is a 3x6, generally a foot off one side isnt used but sometimes it is.
Armada is also 3x6 and it actually needs it because of how wide things turn.
You can find 3x6 mats but theyre kinda rare, usually 2 3x3's are used (i have one 3x6 and it cost like 5 bucks less than a 4x6, since 4x6 are much more commonly desired theyre cheaper as a result per foot). FAT Mat makes some, which is what mine is.

Tad pricy of course, but theyre 1 piece, quite sturdy, and look great. Actually one of the reasons i decided to do Endor rebels was because i already got a grassy 3x6 mat lol
what are FAT mats made out of?

The same stuff the Xwing mats are made out of.

Its basically mousepad material, whatever that stuff is actually called. Only its usually a higher quality than the usual blue/red random mousepad
Neoprene

Can confirm.
it may not look pretty but i like using the backside of two x-wing mats, it gives us perfect infomation about where the middle line is for setting objectives the mouse pad rubber keeps the minis and terrain right where they are with little chance to move around.
Btw deep cut studios has 6’x 3’ mats in a variety of patterns.
