X-wing Force Organization for ships

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

So X-wing has a lot of ships, starting from two factions each with 9 ships to five subfactions divided into 3 primary factions each with a dozen ships. Now each faction has multiple of ships that fill the roll as Bomber or Interceptor. So Just for fun (and maybe coming up with an Alternate format I'd figure why not put each ship in their "Force Organization" spot. Now some of you may recognize this as a similar one used in 40K. You wouldn't be wrong. But I was thinking of mixing it up with the recently defunct Firestorm Planetfall (the ground side game to Firestorm Armada which is now closed by Spartan Games). But anyways this is what I got down.

Command: So these are your squadron leaders and officers, not really a fighting ship but something that can be more of a support role.

Line: This is your X-wing and TIE Fighters, X-wings might not come as numerous as TIE Fighters but make great escorts. These are ships that cost around average and are not too expensive.

Experimental: These are the next generation ship. They cost more and have great stats but are often limited in quantity.

Interceptors: AKA the Arc Dodgers, Good dial, high agility, but not much in the lines of hit points.

Bombers: Prety much the opposite of Interceptors, they make up for their lackings in firepower.

Why is the U wing Command but the Bwing a bomber?

U-wing is more of a shuttle while B-wings are meant for taking on Capital ships. Sure you could put Sabine on and give it EM for bombs but you can also do the same for the B-wing.

Funny I didn't expect that to come into question I thought the YTs would be more of a question as they are sort of the same but different. Well we all know that at the battle of Endor Lando commanded the Starfighter assault with Gold Leader. So the YT-1300 fits more of a command. Where as the YT-2400 never was in a leader role even when it did fight side by side with the falcon in Shadows of the Empire. So I give that the Bomber roll as it is more for heavy weapons platform.

I bring up the Bwing/Uwing comparison because they are the same price (with E2), same stats, and have the same non red dial. The Bwing has a cannon slot that never gets used and an extra never (except for nera) used torpedo slot, vs the U wing being large base, less red maneuvers, usually an extra agility(!!!) and the extra crew slot.

Reason why B-wing's cannon slot never gets used is because most cannons put it above 25 points and B-wings are best in groups of 4. Well the end goal is to have larger lists with other limitations.

So back to Firestorm Planetfall (from the Firestorm Armada Universe) They had an organization centered around Core and 6 different sections such as heavy support or elite that had sort of opposite sides of each other, taking more recon (or an allied recon) would remove a heavy support option. So the idea is to have one command and then Elite and Line on one spectrum and interceptor and bomber on the other. Sure the idea basic organization is and these are more of ratios not numbers but 1 command 1 elite, 3 line, 2 interceptor 2 bomber. Taking a swarm list of say 6 line would mean no elites, or taking an interceptor force of 4 interceptors means no bombers.

Still I am interested in alternative opinions, after all Red Leader was an X-wing and Gold Leader was a Y-wing. So if you got a list that is either slightly different or completely different in categorization from mine let me know.
