Rules from expansions as PDF

By Virablatira, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi

Is it possible to get the rules from expansion ships as PDF? One of the rules (with mission) that I got from a ship expansion seems to be lost. I have seen that I can download the full rules for the core set but I cant find any for the individual ship expansions.

Thanks for any help

Not legitimately :(

Hi

Thanks anyway.

But a bit strange I think, considering that there is additional info like the missions which cant be found in the main rule book.

There's more than just the missions on those inserts that aren't in the main rulebook. Most of them contain some very specific rules, and if you don't want to purchase that particular expansion, you just don't have access to those rules. It's very frustrating that FFG don't make them available as a pdf for us to download. :(

What we really need is an updated Rules Reference Guide . Aside from correcting information that might have been errata'd (such as Red Maneuvers While Stressed), there are a lot of new things that should be in there:

  • All current Bomb effects
  • Rules for "new" actions like Reinforce, Reload, and Coordinate
  • The attack flow chart (which should properly be in the RRG rather than the FAQ)
  • Perhaps a new "Activation Flow Chart" to create a clear definition of when certain effects activate.

Hi Parravon and Emeraldbeacon

I agree with you both. I'm quite a novice player so I didn't know about all these other things you mention. But it seems essential that there should be an updated Rules reference guide. I can understand that FFG cant update it every time there is something new. But perhaps a few times a year.

Well considering they release a new wave two or three times each year, even that might be a bit excessive. But every 12-18 months wouldn't hurt.

But they would rather you just buy all the expansions in order to keep yourself up to date. Which is good for their business model but not too crash hot for the gamers that can't afford to keep up with every expansion. :(

Best resource is the unofficial X-wing wiki:

http://xwing-miniatures.wikia.com/wiki/X-Wing_Miniatures_Wiki

Type in the search box the name of the missing (or unobtained) expansion and scroll to the bottom to see links to special rules and missions. If you know the name of a mechanic/rule/token you can search that as well of course. It's unofficial and not well organized, but it's the closest I have to a collected reference.

They attempt to keep us updated using the reference cards, which has a lot of the new elements added. Though docked ships is notably one thing missing. At least an annual update to the rule book in electronic format is not asking to much. It would also keep the FAQ from growing cumbersome, as a certain amount of information could (and should) be migrated over.

I'd be happy with a rules reference sheet combining all the text from the various cards (and adding docked ships).

Kinda like this?

If someone were to take the text from the rules pdf documents, put it into Word, clean it up and add in all the new rules, errata and FAQ, would it be allowable to pass that around? I'm guessing not, just curious.

Probably ok as an "informal" document for casual gaming, but I doubt you'd be able to use it at a tournament.

That's sounds exactly like what would be nice. PM incoming.

Actually, I do use it at tournaments (I'm the local TO), but I also have all of the original documents, as well as the rules cards available. Its just a handy way to have everything all in one place.

@Gullwind I guess that's fine for your local scene. I'm just saying it might not fly at other locations depending on how strict the TOs are. Some can be complete clowns, some can be quite casual (yet still enforce the rules).

I have my BIG Reference Card, but I don't have all the rules inserts, and none of the ones for the epic ships. But it would be great ( but unlikely ) if FFG made them available.
