Corruptor & Admiral Chiraneau and the new FAQ

By JadinED, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Admiral Chiraneau

Squadrons that you activate can move even if they are engaged. When an engaged squadron moves in this way, treat it as having a printed speed of 2.

Corruptor

The speed of each squadron with BOMBER you activate is increased by 1 until the end of its activation.

From the new FAQ:

Q: Do effects that change a squadron’s speed value also apply when the squadron moves because of a card effect?

A: No. A squadron’s speed only applies when it performs its standard move during its activation.

Please correct me If I'm wrong. Before the latest FAQ, it was unambigious. Engaged bombers activated by the Corruptor with Admiral Chiraneau could move away from the enemy fighters engaging them; and at speed 3.

Now with the new FAQ, it has become a little more iffy. On the one hand, the Corruptor-Chiraneau combo applies in the normal squadron activation, which would mean that speed 3 is still possible. On the other hand, the bombers only move because of the card effect when engaged. Without the card effect, they couldn't move. And because the "effects that change a squadron’s speed value [...] apply when the squadron moves because of a card effect" the speed is now 2 and can't be changed by Corruptor.

How do you see it?

I think this refers to Fighter Coordinayion teams rather yhan Chiraneau

I think so, too. The ruling obviously came with regards to the interaction of "Fighter Coordination Teams" and "All Fighters Follow Me!".

My question is, if there is also an implication for this combo. In contrast to Fighter Coordination Teams and TIE Phantoms, which move with a given distance, the bombers here move with a speed...

(Fighter Coordination Team - After you execute a maneuver, you may select a number of unengaged friendly squadrons up to your squadron value at close-medium range. Those squadrons may move up to distance 1.

CLOAK - At the end of the Squadron Phase, you may move up to distance 1, even if you are engaged.

Admiral Chiraneau - Squadrons that you activate can move even if they are engaged. When an engaged squadron moves in this way, treat it as having a printed speed of 2.)

Also in the same FAQ it does state that Corruptor and Chiranau do stack.

Ah right. I missed that. Thanks.

Doesn't change anything.

FAQ states that Squadron's Speed value only applies during standard move.

Chiraneau is not giving it a bonus move, it is affecting the standard move and thus the Speed stat (changing the "printed" stat to 2). Corruptor also affects the Speed stat (increasing it by 1).

Also this.
