Genesys: Final Fantasy VII - Progress!

By Kawiie, in Genesys

Hey, so I wanted to show you guys my progress of Genesys: Final Fantasy VII so far, with a PDF Ruleset (or what I have of it so far) and the first draft of my Character sheet (only first page for now). Hope you like!

Ruleset --- Character Sheet

I'm aware of the Soak title being a bit skewed, but I'll fix that later.

Any comments or critiques? :D

I like the idea of the Materia being used to unlock spells and upgraded effects.

I wasn't sure if you intended to exclude the existing magical implements (which bring the magic damage to a similar level as non-magical damage). If you are supposed to still be casting through your sword, it might be worth having materia bump damage too.

There's a minor mistake with the description of Restore referencing Earth.

Does the Time Slow effect prevent the target from taking actions? If so, this might be too strong for the given difficulty.

None of the careers have Summoning as a class skill, though that may be intended.

Darn it, I wanted to make a classic-FF (I-V) Theme for Genesys, but I guess I'm too late.

The PDF looks impressive, I'll try to read into it, after I get back home from New Year's Eve.

Nah, don't worry about being too late. We're all here to help each other.

I have also started making a classic setting. I wanted to incorporate Summons and I got some good advice on that. There are a lot of similarities to my ideas to Kawiie's ideas. You just take what you like and ignore or tweak what you don't.

The layout does look great. I wish I could do that kind of work easily.

I was looking at the Materia for Time and Seal and the like...

You may want to clarify that the caster "must use one and only one of the following effects..."

Since only FF fans will be using this ruleset, maybe that is obvious, but the wording and the way it is inserted into the chart could imply you just have to use at least one effect, and all other options can be used just like any other normal magic spell in Genesys.

I knew I would miss one of those buggers on Materia! Dangit! xD

And no, slow is just a reversal on the Haste thing, which gives you a free second maneuver. This takes away your optional one. May tweak it though at some point.

And that is intentional. Summoning is going to be very strong no matter how I really do it, so...

Good idea, I'll probably implement that :) Thanks!

Nothing's stopping you, go right ahead! Also, thanks,it was a lot of trial and error to make, as I'm not used to the program I set it up with :)

What program did you use?

Just word, usually I go with a free program like open office xD The charcter sheet is made in Scribus however.
