Monthly store tournament

By emsgoof, in Star Wars: Armada Battle Reports

Ahh, playing the scheduling games at work so I can make time for my favorite hobby, moving around pieces of plastic!

I went to the local store for their monthly tournament today, and it was well attended with I believe 14 people showing up! I was the last person to arrive, walking through the door only 2 minutes before the scheduled start time ?

I took the basic list I'm planning on using at our regional tournament next month, with Screed, an ISD1, Gladiator 1, Raider 1, Gozanti, and 4 Defenders. It gives me a decent bid for first, although I'm starting to think first isn't always what it's cracked up to be.

For the first round, I matched up against a fine gentleman I've had the opportunity to get trounced by on a couple of occasions, and was hoping today would show a different result! He mentioned to me during the setup that he had just come up with the Rebel list he was running the night before, and it looked strong! MC80 Assault w/ Rieekan, Home One, Engine Techs, Lando, Advanced Projectors, Reinforced Blast Doors. 4 CR90B with Reinforced Blast Doors and Engine Tech, one GR75 without upgrades. I opted to go first and chose his contested outpost objective.

Here you can see the deployment. His lack of squadrons left me hanging a little bit with my Raider and squadrons.

After turn 1, he's moved up to grab the objective points for controlling the station, and you can see he's trying a flanking maneuver with the CR90s.

End of turn 2, I've jumped ahead with my ISD ready to unload on Home One. The Gladiator was able to take out the CR90 on my left, and I'm controlling the station, having traded that for the loss of my Gozanti.

Turn 3, my ISD activated first and heavily damaged Home One, and then the Gladiator finished it off. He forgot about Lando and Rieekan wouldn't have really made a difference (he forgot about leaving Rieekans Home One on the table as well).

Turn 4, a combination of the Raider and ISD took out the 2 CR90s behind my ISD- as I recall I took out the closest one with the double arc Raider and rear arc ISD shots, and the one all the way on the left ended up in my side arc and died, or something along those lines. The Defenders also did a number on his CR90s, causing one to die and heavy damage to another that was finished off by one of my ships.

Turn 5 I'm now after the remaining flotilla. It wasn't much of a fight against the Gladiator. Ended up a victory, 440-47.

Changed the title

Round 2 was against @Truthiness. I won't post his list, as I think he's using it at our regional in a couple of weeks, although he may post it at some point. Let me just say I hate small zippy Rebel ships!

Here's our deployment, I'm again the first player and chose his Most Wanted objective. His other two fed right into his ability to move objective tokens around with strategic and I knew that was a lost cause! My ISD and one of his flotillas are the objective ships.

End of turn 1, I'm still feeling confident at this point. Ha!

End of turn 2, my Raider and his objective flotilla are sort of out of the shot on the left. I'm starting to have a bad feeling about this.

End of turn 3, I now know I'm outmatched in every way, and I'm just hoping my beat down isn't going to leave permanent injuries.

End of turn 4. I'm sure by now you've noticed there's something VERY LARGE that's now missing from the table. Yep, there went 220+ victory points... Who's idea was it to take Most Wanted as the objective?!?!?

End of turn 5. One of my two remaining ships is going to die, it's just my choice at the moment to try and prolong my rout... The MC30 is completely healthy so the Raider has no chance of killing is, so I try running away with my Gladiator (note the keyword try).

Yeah I died... but at least I killed his objective flotilla and 2 squadrons!

The game was a complete trouncing, being a 510-102 loss. Looking back, I probably should have opted to go second, and let him choose one of my annoying objectives, turtled up, and let him come to me before jumping to speed 3 and running away. If we rematch at regionals, I may do that.

After my beating in round 2, I was surprised to find myself on table 2 for the final round. I was facing off against another Imperial player, running Vader on an ISD1 w/ Avenger, XI7, Gunnery Teams, an ISD2 with Boosted Comms and Gunnery Teams, a Gozanti, Saber Squadon, TIE Interceptor, 2 TIE fighters, Howlrunner, and Soontir Fel. I chose his Planetary Ion Cannon objective, as I was feeling confident the pain wouldn't be too bad from 1 shot if I could avoid at least 2 other tokens.

Deployment. The third token is off to the right and wouldn't play any role in this match.

End of turn 1. My plan is to hit Vader in the ISD on my left hard with my ISD and Gladiator. I'm hoping to draw his squadrons in close to mine and hit them with my Raider to shut down his squadron game.

End of turn 2. Unfortunately Vader ended up just barely (like 1mm) inside close range to my ISD, and his ISD2 pulled a Disengaged Fire Control card for his asteroid damage, with his forward shot to my ISD being obstructed by the asteroid he was sitting on, and his side shot to my Gozanti also being obstructed!

End of turn 3. I killed Vader's ISD 1, and his Gozanti. His ISD2 is barreling along at speed 3 (this becomes important later).

End of turn 4. I had activated my ISD first to get out of his front arc, and I'm trying to swing my Gladiator around to finish off his ISD.

End of turn 5. He's in trouble, because either the Gladiator is going to destroy his ISD, or it's going to fly off the table.

End of the game. The ISD survived the Gladiator, but ended up off the table. Soontir bought it, and that left a sole Interceptor on the table.

I realize luck had a HUGE impact on this round, especially with the Disengaged Fire Control crit coming up when it did. My dice were also nice to me this round.

Overall it was a fun tournament and I was happy at the large turnout. There were a few familiar faces there today, but many new people showing up as well!

The final standings had me in third, losing out to second place by 1 tournament point to @duck_bird I believe (making an educated guess). Congrats to @Truthiness for his overall win, he earned it!

Sounds like a great turn out 14! Sorry I missed it. Maybe next month.

Fun day at a lovely store!

I was very intrigued to see 3 screed fleets out of 10 imperial admirals!

Nice games!

Glad you were able to come out!

Thanks for the write-up! I enjoy all the pictures.
